Recently, some major groups of bus operators have written an open letter towards the Philippine Government; the current situation with regard to the oil supply of our country has severely impacted their daily operations. Furthermore, they collectively called for a reasonable price increase on the fare to justify their needs to sustain their operations in providing a public transport service towards the riding public.

We, at the Philippine Bus Photographers Association (PBPA), stand in solidarity with the side of the public transportation sector in calling for justifiable action from the government in response to the ongoing oil crisis within our nation. As a group, we are expressing our sympathy to those affected by this occurrence of all forms.

May we stand as one country in fostering resilience and solidarity towards the public transportation sector for the betterment of the riding public.

‘THE PROVINCIAL AND CITY BUS INDUSTRIES ARE BLEEDING’

Victory Liner Inc., along with provincial and city bus operators, called on President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Congress, and concerned government agencies to take urgent action amid rising fuel prices and operating costs.

The bus operators said fuel already accounts for approximately 45% to 60% of operating costs, while regulated fares have not kept pace with the actual cost of providing transportation.

They also cited fleet modernization costs, loans, spare parts, tires, maintenance, insurance, toll fees, regulatory compliance, and an impending wage increase as additional financial pressures.

“No industry can survive when its regulated revenue is lower than the actual cost of delivering its service,” the statement read.

“This is not a threat to stop operations. This is a notice that operations may soon become impossible,” it added.

The statement was signed by the Provincial Bus Operators Association of the Philippines, Nagkakaisang Samahan ng Nangangasiwa ng Panlalawigang Bus sa Pilipinas, Inc., SOLUBOA, and Mega Manila Consortium.
