When she got home, her father wrapped a blanket around her and asked, โ€œJust now I saw you stop running. Why did you look up and smile at the lightning?โ€ She said, โ€œOh, I looked up because the lightning looked as bright as a camera flashbulb. I thought to myself, โ€˜God is taking my picture!โ€™ โ€
What do you do when the โ€˜stormsโ€™ of life come your way? Do you put your head down as the โ€˜stormโ€™ falls? Or do you look up because you trust God is there for you?
This week, we will look at some of the things we often say and do during hard times. We will think about how we can use lifeโ€™s disappointments and suffering to make our relationships grow strong.

โ€” Jesus asked His disciples to cross the lake even though He knew a storm was coming. Following Jesus does not mean we will avoid trials and difficulties. The disciples were experienced fishermen, but their skills could not save them.

โ€” During the storm, Jesus was asleep, yet He was still in control. Fear caused the disciples to question Christ's love and care for them. We often react the same way when facing loss, uncertainty, suffering, or unanswered prayers. God's silence does not mean God has abandoned us. Storms reveal our need to depend on Jesus rather than ourselves.

โ€” Faith means trusting God even when we cannot see what He is doing. Jesus can calm the storms around us and give peace within us. Difficult seasons can strengthen our faith and draw us closer to God.

โ€” A woman who had suffered for many years heard that Jesus was nearby and decided to seek Him. She had tried many human solutions, spent all she had, and still was not healed. Despite her weakness, disappointment, and pain, she didn't refused to give up hope.

โ€” Many people were close to Jesus that day, but only the woman reached out to Him in faith. Her healing did not come from touching His garment but from trusting in Jesus. Jesus noticed her faith and showed that no sincere person is ever lost in the crowd.

โ€” This story teaches that it is not enough to know about Jesus or stay near Him; we must personally come to Him and trust Him. Like the woman, we all carry burdens, struggles, and disappointments that only Jesus can truly heal. Jesus invites everyone who is weary and hurting to come to Him for help, strength, and rest.

โ€” Job experienced terrible loss. He lost his wealth, his children, and his health. Even his wife discouraged him, and his friends wrongly assumed that he was suffering because of hidden sin. Although Job did not understand why these things were happening, he refused to turn away from God.

โ€” Job continued to trust God and remained faithful during his suffering. He believed that God was still worthy of worship, even in the middle of pain and unanswered questions. Like Job, we may face loss, disappointment, suffering, and situations that make little sense.

โ€” Faith is trusting God's love and goodness even when we cannot see the reason for our struggles. Our present troubles are temporary, but God's promises and eternal reward are sure.

โ€” The two disciples were discouraged because Jesus had died and their expectations seemed shattered. They believed their hopes had failed, but they could not see God's bigger plan. As they walked, Jesus joined them, but they did not recognize Him. Jesus patiently explained the Scriptures and showed that His suffering and death were part of God's purpose.

โ€” The disciples focused on their disappointment, while Jesus saw the complete picture. Many times we react like these disciples when life does not go as planned. We can become confused, discouraged, and full of questions when we face setbacks. Often Jesus is working beside us even when we do not recognize His presence. We may think we understand our situation, but God sees far more than we do.

โ€” Jesus asks us the same question He asked His disciples: "Why are you troubled? Why do doubts arise in your hearts?" God's Word helps us see our challenges from Heaven's perspective. Trials do not mean God has abandoned us. He can use them to strengthen our faith and draw us closer to Him. The promises of Scripture remind us that God is working for our good, gives strength in weakness, and helps us endure difficult times.

The crowd who left Egypt with the Israelites was unhappy. They were upset that they had to wait so long in the desert. They were ready to move to the land filled with milk and honey. A few days before, Godโ€™s people promised to obey Him. But now they wanted a God or leader they could see. So, they went to Aaronโ€™s tent and asked him to make a statue they could worship. Aaron was afraid the people would hurt him if he didnโ€™t help them. So, he agreed to do what they wanted. In Exodus 32โ€“34, we read what happens next in this sad story.
This story teaches us about confessing our sins and Godโ€™s forgiveness. Think about the memory verse as you read each dayโ€™s study. Yes, we sin. But God made a plan to save us. Thanks to Jesusโ€™ death on the cross, God offers to forgive us. But we must confess our sins first. We also must ask for the Holy Spiritโ€™s help to stop sinning.

โ€” Life can become so busy that we neglect the most important thing our relationship with God. The danger comes when these things consume our time and leave little room for God. We may love God and appreciate the Sabbath, yet still allow life's pressures to crowd out meaningful time with Him.

โ€” God gave us the Sabbath as a special gift to strengthen our friendship with Him and remind us to put Him first. A healthy relationship with God requires intentional time in prayer, Bible study, worship, and fellowship with Him. When we realize that we have drifted away from God, we should come to Him with humility and repentance.

โ€” The closer we come to God, the more we recognize our need of His grace. Through Christ, we are forgiven, accepted, and restored to a right relationship with God. Christ's righteousness is our only hope of salvation, which is why we must continually depend on Him.

โ€” Sin creates distance between us and God and weakens our relationship with Him. When we do wrong, it is often easier to justify ourselves than to admit our fault. The Holy Spirit lovingly convicts us of sin and shows us our need of repentance. Conviction is a gift from God because it helps us recognize what is separating us from Him.

โ€” In Hosea 6, God calls His people to return to Him because He longs to heal, restore, and bless them. God is merciful and eager to forgive those who sincerely repent. True repentance is more than regret over consequences; it is sorrow for having grieved God.

โ€” The Holy Spirit leads us to the foot of the cross where we see God's love and our need of His grace. Jesus invites us to remain connected to Him as branches connected to the Vine. Spiritual growth is only possible when we maintain a living relationship with Christ. When we confess and surrender our sins, God forgives us, restores us, and draws us closer to Himself.

โ€” Repentance was a central message preached by both John the Baptist and Jesus. God calls us to repent because His kingdom is near and He desires to save us. True repentance begins when we recognize our sins and our need of God's mercy. God's kindness, patience, and goodness are meant to lead us to repentance.

โ€” Repentance involves sincere sorrow for sin and a decision to turn away from it. Genuine repentance is always connected with confession, forgiveness, and restoration. God is eager to forgive everyone who comes to Him with a repentant heart. The Lord patiently gives us time to make things right with Him before Christ returns.

โ€” Repentance is not merely feeling bad about sin; it is choosing to surrender our lives to God. As we remain connected to Christ, He removes sinful habits and develops His character within us. True repentance produces visible changes in our attitudes, choices, and actions. Spiritual growth happens as we continually surrender, repent, and allow God to shape us. Repentance leads to forgiveness, spiritual renewal, fruitfulness, and eternal life.

โ€” God is merciful, gracious, patient, and overflowing with love toward sinners. Even when His people fail, God continues to seek their restoration rather than their destruction. After Israel sinned, God revealed His character as a God of mercy, forgiveness, and covenant love. God's grace is the reason Jesus came to die so that our broken relationship with Him could be restored.

โ€” The Holy Spirit leads us to recognize our sins and brings us to the foot of the Cross. Like the tax collector, we should come to God humbly, asking for mercy and forgiveness. Jesus does not push sinners away; He invites them to come to Him with their burdens.

โ€” No matter how great our sins may be, God's grace is greater still. Jesus died for us while we were still sinners, proving the depth of God's love. When we accept Christ's grace, our guilt is replaced with forgiveness, hope, and peace.

โ€” Our true identity should not be found in possessions, status, or appearance, but in Jesus Christ. In the parable of the wedding feast, the wedding garment represents Christ's righteousness. The man without the wedding garment accepted the invitation but rejected what was freely provided.

โ€” This teaches that it is not enough to know about Jesus; we must personally accept His gift of righteousness. Christ offers every believer His perfect character to cover our sin and shame.

โ€” Adam and Eve lost their innocence when they sinned and tried to cover themselves with fig leaves. Their fig-leaf coverings represent human efforts to solve the problem of sin. God replaced their coverings with garments provided through
sacrifice, pointing forward to Jesus.

โ€” In the same way, we cannot save ourselves through good works, religious activities, or personal effort. Only the righteousness of Christ can make us acceptable before God. Daily wearing Christ's robe means trusting in His grace, surrendering our lives to Him, and allowing His character to be seen in our actions.

โ€œHe who would become a child of God must receive the truth that repentance and forgiveness are to be obtained through nothing less than the atonement of Christ. Assured of this the sinner must put forth an effort in harmony with the work done for him, and with unwearied entreaty he must supplicate the throne of grace, that the renovating power of God may come into his soul. Christ pardons none but the penitent, but whom He pardons He first makes penitent. The provision made is complete, and the eternal righteousness of Christ is placed to the account of every believing soul. The costly, spotless robe, woven in the loom of heaven, has been provided for the repenting, believing sinner.โ€

Sin separates us from God now (Isaiah 59:2). Sin also tricks, hurts, and destroys us in the end. Our fight against sin and self is the biggest fight of our lives.
Yes, we all are sinners. We all have sinned. Our thoughts, reasons for doing things, behavior, and words hurt other people, ourselves, and God. In the end, sin destroys our relationship with God. But God gave us His law to show us who He is. Godโ€™s law shows us the sin in our lives.
This week, letโ€™s look at the reason God gave us His law. When people break Godโ€™s law, how can they fix their relationship with God?

โ€” Samson was chosen by God for a special purpose. God gave him strength and opportunities to serve. But Samson slowly gave in to temptation and wrong choices. Instead of depending fully on God, Samson trusted in his own strength.

โ€” Little by little, distractions and sinful desires weakened his spiritual life. Satan works hard to weaken our relationship with God. He often uses distractions, temptations, and over consumption to pull our attention away from prayer, Bible study, and communion with God.

โ€” Some distractions may not seem sinful at first. Work, entertainment, social media, shopping, sports, or food can slowly take too much of our time and energy. When this happens, there is little room left for God Jesus understands the pressures and struggles of life. Yet even during busy and difficult times, He often withdrew to pray and spend time with His Father.

โ€” Jesus knew that communion with God gives strength for spiritual battles. We also need daily time with God. Faith grows when we hear and study God's Word. Through prayer and Bible study, God gives believers strength to resist temptation and remain spiritually close to Him.

โ€” The Bible teaches that sin is breaking God's law. God's law helps believers recognize what sin really is. Like a mirror or a pair of glasses, the law reveals our true condition and shows us where we need God's help.

โ€” Sin is not only the wrong things people do outwardly, but also wrong thoughts, attitudes, and desires hidden in the heart. Human hearts are naturally sinful and selfish, because of this, everyone needs Jesus to change their hearts and guide their lives. The Ten Commandments were given by God to protect our relationship with Him and with others.

โ€” Jesus summarized the law into two great commands:
โ€ข ๐ฟ๐‘œ๐‘ฃ๐‘’ ๐บ๐‘œ๐‘‘ ๐‘๐‘œ๐‘š๐‘๐‘™๐‘’๐‘ก๐‘’๐‘™๐‘ฆ

โ€” God's law is based on love, not punishment. It teaches believers how to live in harmony with God and with people around them. Satan tries to make people see God's law as a burden. Some focus only on rules and forget the love behind them. But the Bible teaches that God's commandments are not burdensome when believers truly love Him.

โ€” Obedience does not save us, but it is the result of a loving relationship with God. The law helps believers live stronger, safer, and more faithful lives. When God's law becomes central in homes, churches, and daily life, relationships improve. Love, respect, honesty, forgiveness, and faithfulness become more visible.

โ€” Godโ€™s law tells us about His love. His law also shows us what is important to Him. God gave us His law to protect our relationships with Him and other people. Weโ€™ve all suffered because of sin, right? God gave us His law to help us live and grow in Him.

โ€” The law is all about the love of Jesus. Jesus said, โ€œ โ€˜If you love me, obey my commandsโ€™ โ€ (John 14:15, NIrV). When we love Jesus with all our hearts, we will want to keep His law. When we understand His law, we will love Jesus more. More important, the best way to grow our love for God is to think about Jesus dying for us on the cross.

โ€” For sure, the Good News is connected closely with the law. We always must remember that the law canโ€™t save us. The law doesnโ€™t forgive us. God doesnโ€™t accept us because of the law. We need Jesus and His death on the cross for that. The law shows us why we need forgiveness.

โ€” The law also helps us understand why we need Jesus to be our Substitute. The Good News about Jesus helps us to understand the law. The Good News is that Jesus died for our sins. He saves us with His obedience. He gives us His obedience as a gift. We get this gift when we have faith in Him.

โ€” Jesus taught that knowing about Him is not enough. Some people say, "Lord, Lord," but do not truly follow God's will. True Christianity is more than Bible knowledge. A person can understand many Bible truths and still have a weak relationship with God. Eternal life is knowing God personally and walking closely with Jesus every day.

โ€” Real faith changes the heart, the character, and the way believers live. Love for God is shown through obedience. Just as children show love and respect to parents by listening to them, believers show love to God by following His will.

โ€” Jesus ended the Sermon on the Mount with the example of two builders. The wise builder listens to Jesus and obeys Him. The foolish builder hears the words but does not obey. Building on the Rock means building life on Jesus and His teachings.

โ€” Trials will come, but a life grounded in Christ will stand firm. God has already revealed His plan through His Word. Each person must choose whether to accept Jesus and live by faith in Him.

โ€œWhen people respect the Bible, they can make God happy and do everything He wants. The Israelites were strong during King Davidโ€™s time and in the early part of King Solomonโ€™s time. Thatโ€™s because they honored the law. In the days of Elijah and Josiah, the people had faith in Godโ€™s living word, the Bible. Because the people had faith, God changed many lives for the better. The Bible was the most precious gift that God gave the Israelites. Jeremiah also tried to help Godโ€™s people to change their lives for the better. So, Jeremiah invited the people to follow Godโ€™s Word.โ€

How strong is your faith in God today? Was your faith weak in the past? Maybe you had an experience that caused you to doubt. Now you are stuck in your relationship with God. You arenโ€™t growing anymore. You donโ€™t know what to do to solve the problem. Or maybe your faith is the same as a rosebud that opens into a beautiful flower and fills a room with its perfume? As the memory verse for this week says, โ€œFaith means being sure of the things we hope for. And faith means knowing that something is real even if we do not see itโ€ (Hebrews 11:1).
The Bible says, โ€œKeep in mind [remember] the faith God has given to each of youโ€ (Romans 12:3, NIrV). Faith is a gift from God (Romans 12:3; Ephesians 2:8, 9). We have faith in God because of everything He already does in us and for us.
This week, we explore the topic of faith. What do we do with doubt? What does Jesus tell us about strong faith? Also, what does it mean to have โ€œthe faith of [that comes from] Jesusโ€ (Revelation 14:12, KJV)?

โ€” Many people think faith would be easier if they saw miracles for themselves. Some believe they would trust God more if they witnessed signs like the Red Sea opening or manna falling from heaven. But the Israelites saw these miracles and still struggled with unbelief. This lesson shows that miracles alone do not change the heart.

โ€” Jesus spoke about signs of the last days in Matthew 24. Many of these prophecies are being fulfilled around us today. The Pharisees asked Jesus for more signs. Yet He had already healed the sick, raised the dead, and performed many miracles. Their problem was not lack of evidence. Their hearts were unwilling to believe.

โ€” Faith is not blind. God has already given strong reasons to believe through:

โ€” Doubts may come at times. But believers should focus more on what strengthens faith than on what weakens it. Jesus told Thomas that those who believe without seeing are blessed. God wants us to trust Him because we know His character and His love.

โ€” Jesus sees the true condition of every heart. He knows when faith is strong and when it is weak. In Mark 4:40, Jesus asked His disciples why they had so little faith. They had already seen many miracles, yet fear overwhelmed them during the storm. This lesson reminds us that even believers can struggle with fear and doubt during difficult moments.

โ€” In contrast, the woman in Matthew 15 showed strong faith. She trusted Jesus even when her faith was tested. She refused to give up. The Roman centurion in Luke 7 also demonstrated remarkable faith. He believed Jesus could heal with only a word. He understood Christ's authority and trusted His power completely. Another father came to Jesus seeking help for his son. In honesty and humility, he cried, "Lord, I believe; help my unbelief." This shows that even weak faith can grow when we sincerely come to Jesus.

โ€” Faith does not mean believers never struggle with doubts. Pain, disappointment, fear, and uncertainty can sometimes weaken trust in God. Satan wants people to doubt God's love and promises. But God invites us to bring our doubts to Him instead of hiding them.

โ€” He gave us minds to reason, learn, and understand. The Bible provides many strong reasons to trust Him. Still, there are moments when we may not fully understand everything happening in life. During those times, faith means choosing to trust God because we know His character is loving, faithful, and good.

โ€” Jesus said that if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can move mountains (Matthew 17:20). If you saw a mustard seed, you know that it is very small. But having faith this small can make big things happen. So, faith must be powerful enough to do something we canโ€™t do.

โ€” Faith is our answer to the Holy Spirit. God works with the Holy Spirit to bring us close to His heart. We must allow the Holy Spirit to do this work (Jeremiah 31:3). God saves us with His love and mercy when we believe in Him. God gives us His love and forgiveness when we accept Jesusโ€™ death for our sins. Our relationship with God comes from our understanding of this Bible truth.

โ€” โ€œMany people donโ€™t live their faith because they are waiting for a feeling of joy to fill them first. Feeling is not faith. . . . Joy comes from God. We must live our faith first. Then God will give us the blessing and this joyful feeling.โ€

โ€” We must not allow our feelings to control our religious experience or our relationship with God. Faith is about belief and trust in God in the good and bad times. We also must trust in God when we canโ€™t fully understand what is happening in our lives. Thatโ€™s just when you need to have the most faith. โ€” Revelation 14:12 describes God's faithful people in the last days. They keep God's commandments and have the faith of Jesus. The faith of Jesus means more than simply believing in Him. It also means having the kind of faith Jesus Himself lived. Jesus trusted His Father completely and obeyed Him fully.

โ€” The clearest picture of Christ's faith is seen in Gethsemane. Jesus prayed while carrying deep sorrow and suffering. He knew the pain and sacrifice waiting before Him. Yet He still surrendered Himself to the Father's will. Even in agony, Jesus chose trust and obedience. This lesson teaches that real faith continues trusting God during difficult moments.

โ€” Faith does not mean life will always feel easy. Sometimes believers struggle with fear, weakness, or discouragement. Jesus understands those struggles and invites us to depend on Him daily. It is daily dependence on Jesus. As we pray, study God's Word, and walk with Christ, our faith grows stronger.
