Anselm Plummer Photography

Anselm Plummer Photography Philippines-based photographer, writer and marketing professional: sharing my experiences I upgraded my equipment slowly and gained experience out in the field.

Anselm Plummer: Freelance photojournalist, landscape and nature photographer originally from the UK but currently based in Davao City, Philippines. My early interest in photography coincided with my decision to leave the UK in 2013. I'd always had a great interest in the cultures and people of the world and so photography seemed the perfect way of documenting this - but at first I was much more of

a writer than a photographer as I developed my trade. I bought my first DSLR in March 2014 (a secondhand Nikon D40 from a pawnshop) and worked from there. I moved to Darwin in May 2014 which proved a major catalyst for my interest and career in photography, landscape and wildlife photography especially. Blessed with great sunsets, excellent light and the sheer diversity of nature around me, I quickly became accustomed to the photographic world, interest from local tourism agencies following. Leaving Darwin in November 2015 gave me new subjects, new perspectives, and new challenges; the isolation of the desert followed by the far more urbanised east coast. Moving on to southeast Asia in early 2016, I quickly developed an affinity with the Philippines and in March decided to relocate there for some time. I am currently based in Davao and exploring the widely unexplored southern island of Mindanao. I produce photographic art for print and online purposes, and also to accompany articles that I may write. HELP ME TELL YOUR STORY:
I also work on marketing projects, do event shoots, and can help you with your business or personal needs to aid development - contact me through my website for more details! I shoot with a Nikon D7100 mostly using the Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 wide angle lens for landscapes, the Nikkor 70-300m f/4-5.6 for telephoto work and my latest addition, the 35mm f/1.8 fixed lens for a range of work. Discovering the world slowly; currently exploring Mindanao in depth.

The locals call this place Prayer Mountain: the only hilltop breaking the lowlands of Banaybanay. Surrounded by the mountains of the Compostela Valley to the north and the Davao Gulf and Samal Island to the south, it's an easy climb to a fantastic lookout - sunset just topping it all off.

Up in the Buda mist.

Buda, literally BUkidnon-DAvao, is just two hours drive north of the city and offers a cool climate and its characteristic fog: we're up in the clouds here!

Travelling is adventurous, especially when the various modes of transport you choose to take seem to be conspiring against you to not connect at all.

But it makes a good story, right?

I'll be heading into the hills of Buda this weekend, so to prepare you, this is the last mountain range I went into - the South Cotabato mountain ranges of the Tboli tribe on the way to Lake Holon.

To celebrate two months since releasing the website, I have finally written about the Philippines: the country that seems to have taken me hostage with its friendly people and beautiful places.

I've been here nearly 5 months, and you know what - I've been totally blown away by everything about this country - even despite the fact that everything takes about four times as long as it should to happen!

Reflections on the first few days in the Philippines; is this the world's friendliest country?

The long awaited article about Vietnam: just four months in the making. And guess what, I still can't come to a conclusion...

Vietnam: what to make of a country so alluring? A lot of hype surrounds it, but the author finds so much more to it, appealing and not so much.

I've been lucky to visit some of the provinces that probably haven't seen much in the way of foreigners, and definitely not a DSLR for a while.

This is one of my favourite shots from my trip to Banaybanay, Davao Oriental, a couple of weeks back - an ice cream seller who I thought was posing, but was actually trying to sell us enough ice cream to make it a 100 peso total!

I've neglected this page a bit over the last 2 weeks - busy with other business matters. Marketing is time-consuming apparently and might make you forget to market your own page.

Ah well. At least the hiatus is over.

I travelled to Mati recently - a beach-focused town in Davao Oriental, about 3 hours from the city. Haven't seen the sun come up in a while and this one was a bit blue but that's how it goes...

Amazing what you see when you go for a walk. Must have walked about 3km in search of election posters in photogenic locations, but this one was a top find.

An abandoned barber shop with an old street sign. I love walking the streets.

The presidential election is this Monday. I'm not sure whether to hide in my house or to go out with the camera. We'll see.

A couple of days ago, I wrote a post about Saigon, the southern city of Vietnam. Contrasts, conflicting scenes - what to make of it?

Just a reminder also that I am still offering 20% off all products in my store as an opening offer - use the code OPEN-20 at checkout!

Landing in Saigon, the old southern capital of Vietnam, the author is not sure what to make of the city: full of contradictions and hidden character.
