Team Davao’s Finest is set to compete in the Asean Barista Team Championship 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand next week.

They are not only representing the Philippines but Davao as well; showcasing the growing local coffee scene.

They will be needing our support in the upcoming championship. On March 1, they will be organizing a Send-Off Fund Raiser at Ideal Coffee at 8pm. Every peso raised will help cover the expenses for the competition.

Let’s support our local talent!

I do not post stuff like this (I like to keep things light at best). However, people must stop thinking that bringing outside food and beverages to local coffee shops is okay.

First, it is disrespectful to the coffee shop. You secretly brought the items into the shop. You did not inform the coffee shop. You attempted to hide your tracks (in this case, they failed. lols). At times, people would surprise the staff by saying that the order is already on the way. You disrespected them and their policies.

Second, one must understand that coffee shops have different concepts. Some offer only coffee, others have coffee and pastries, and some also serve a full cafe menu of appetizers and mains to go with their coffee. They craft their menu as such because that is what they want to offer you. If the item you are looking for is not on the menu, they do not serve it. If the items on the menu are too expensive for you, you are likely not the target market or the ingredients used are premium or other external factors are driving the cost up.

Third, coffee shops want you to experience what they have to offer, not experience what others have to offer at their place. You will not fully experience the coffee shop's offerings when you bring food and beverages from outside.

Fourth, you are not supporting the local coffee shop by bringing outside food. Especially, if the food is for 6 to 7 people and only one will order from the coffee shop's menu.

Fifth, you can always plan ahead. If the coffee shop does not serve meals, it is better to go there midday, mid-afternoon, or after meals. A quick look at their socials will already give you an idea of what they have to offer. If you find their offerings too expensive for your daily allowance, you might as well save up a bit for it.

Lastly, you can always message the shops about outside food policies. You may also ask politely when you are there. Asking properly goes a long way.

I believe this unclassy mindset of bringing outside food just because they have a limited menu should stop.

If you want to experience what coffee shops offer, order from their menu when you visit them; experience them as they are.
