Director Matibag, I understand that public attention can be tempting, but surely the position you hold demands more than allegations. If you claim that I own a resort in Samal, then I suggest you do what an investigator is expected to do—establish the facts and present evidence.
Kung padalhan ka ba ng litrato ng bahay mo ang isang operatiba mo, tapos sabihin niyang pag-aari ko iyon, maniniwala ka rin ba agad? I trust that you understand the difference between a photograph and proof of ownership. After all, that distinction should be elementary for someone in your position.
The NBI is an investigative institution, not a platform for trial by publicity. The public expects its director to distinguish verified facts from speculation. The louder an allegation is repeated, the more important it becomes to establish whether it is true.
As for your credibility, I recall that even former President Rodrigo Duterte raised questions about you during his administration in connection with allegations of corruption. Perhaps this is a good opportunity to demonstrate the standards of evidence and accountability that your office is supposed to uphold.
And while you are occupied with allegations about a supposed resort, I trust you will extend the same enthusiasm for transparency to questions surrounding reported ghost projects in your wife's congressional district.
Accountability, after all, should not depend on whose name is being mentioned.
Director Matibag, I will not ask the public to take my word over yours. I am simply asking that you produce evidence and allow the facts to speak for themselves.
If you have proof, present it. If you do not, the responsible course is to correct the record—not to mistake public office for a license to make accusations.
