“The Land We Inherit, The Legacy We Shape”

Papua New Guinea...

You are the land of the unexpected.
But we, your people, must become the land of the unwavering.

We walk on soil soaked with stories;
of warriors, of weavers, of wisdom passed down in whispers.
We speak in tongues older than empire.
We dance in rhythms that echo through mountains and mangroves.
We are not just diverse; we are divine in our difference.

But let us not mistake beauty for progress.
Let us not confuse pride with purpose.

Because if we truly love this country,
We must be brave enough to name what breaks us.

Too many promises have been swallowed by corruption.
Too many children sit in classrooms without books.
Too many mothers give birth without care.
Too many youths dream in silence, unheard and unseen.

This is not the legacy we deserve.
This is not the future we were born to build.

So rise, Papua New Guinea.
Rise in truth.
Rise in courage.
Rise in unity.

Let our patriotism be more than a flag; it must be a fire.
A fire that burns away apathy.
A fire that lights the path for justice, for dignity, for every village and every voice.

We are not waiting for change.
We are the change.

The land we inherit is sacred.
But the legacy we shape; that is our responsibility.

A juvenile White-bellied Sea Eagle (Haliaeetus leucogaster) perches soaked and alert, while a Brahminy Kite (Haliastur indus) lies beneath it in quiet surrender. Both were caught while swooping for fish hauled in by local fishermen; an unintended consequence of instinct meeting livelihood, suspended in the netted space between survival and captivity.
