When a young Sepik man emerges from initiation, it is visible proof that the community does not treat the Sepik river as an object. They treat it as kin. It raise the question. Is the Sepik Frieda River an object or a relative to be respected? The answer is already written on the bodies of Sepik men. It is written in the language of scars, discipline and belonging. It is written in the covenant between people and water, when the amphibian is the bind.
