BREAKING: FI****MS SURRENDER IN WAPENAMANDA DISTRICT

WAPENAMANDA, ENGA PROVINCE – Today marks a significant milestone in the journey towards peace for Enga Province. In a powerful demonstration of leadership and commitment to law and order, the tribe of Hon. Miki Kaeok, Minister for Transport and Member for Wapenamanda, has officially surrendered their fi****ms to state authorities.

The ceremony was witnessed by the Minister for Police, the PNG Defence Force, and the Provincial Police Commander.

This high-profile surrender is being hailed as a vital step toward restoring law and order. By laying down arms, Minister Kaeok’s tribe has set a powerful precedent for tribal reconciliation and conflict de-escalation in the Highlands.

As the National Fi****ms Amnesty continues, a strong appeal has been issued to all current and former Members of Parliament in Enga. Leaders are urged to follow this example by facilitating the surrender of illegal fi****ms at Wabag.

Choose peace today for a safer tomorrow.

The Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC) has issued a strong public warning to all PMV and taxi operators not to increase fares or short-serve their licensed routes.
In a public notice released this week, the ICCC acknowledged the efforts of the Road Traffic Authority (RTA) and the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary for their joint operations to remove unroadworthy Public Motor Vehicles (PMVs) and taxis from roads in the National Capital District and nearby Central Province.
While the enforcement has temporarily reduced the number of available public transport vehicles, the ICCC said the move is necessary to improve public safety and raise the standard of transport services in the country’s capital.
The Commission stressed that all licensed operators must comply with the officially approved fare limits, as published in the National Gazette No. G21 on January 9, 2026. It added that these fares already take into account the costs of meeting safety and regulatory requirements.
Operators have been warned not to take advantage of the current shortage by increasing fares or failing to complete their full routes. The ICCC said such actions are unlawful and undermine fair competition in the transport sector.
Authorities, including the RTA and police, are currently conducting random inspections at bus stops and along major roads. Operators found breaching regulations will face strict penalties.
Under the Prices Regulation (Amendment) Act 2025, offenders may be prosecuted and fined up to K10,000 for summary offences and up to K30,000 for more serious indictable offences.
The ICCC is also urging commuters to be aware of the approved fares and report any cases of overcharging or route violations to the ICCC, police, or the RTA.
