With all the ongoing talks around the PNG Chiefs, it was exciting for us to be part of a conversation that brought the story even closer to the people.

We were recently asked to help film the very first episode of Toktok Footy Podcast with Lawrence Lahari, featuring PNG Chiefs CEO Lorna McPherson and PNG Chiefs General Manager Michael Chammas.

This shoot was done in collaboration with Elsonkay bringing together a strong creative team to capture both the podcast and behind-the-scenes moments.

Special thanks to Lawrence Lahari and Sibona Kala for the opportunity to film this podcast.

We recently filmed a documentary story along the Vanimo–Indonesia border, visiting Wutung Village, and the historic border markers connected to PNG, Indonesia, and the old colonial boundaries once associated with Australia and the Dutch administration.

One of the most memorable moments was visiting the old burial site near the border area, where human skulls are still preserved.

It was an honour to document this story and learn more about the people, places, and history of Papua New Guinea.

Recently, our team had the great honour of interviewing Mr Peter Kanawi at Waromo Village, West-Coast, West Sepik Province, where he shared his remarkable life story and his memories from Papua New Guinea’s Independence Day on 16 September 1975.

Mr Kanawi was the head teacher at Ossima Primary School when he lowered the Australian flag on the day PNG became an independent nation. Fifty years later, he still carries that moment with pride, strength, and deep patriotism.

What began as a documentary interview became something much bigger. We sat with him and his wife and listened as he shared almost one hour and thirty minutes of his life, his service as a teacher, his friendship with the late Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare, and the story behind the historic flag he preserved for decades.

For us, this was more than filming. It was a privilege to document a living piece of PNG history. A story that deserves to be remembered, protected, and passed on to the next generation.

At 84 years old, Mr Kanawi remains strong, sharp, and full of life. His story is a reminder that independence was not just a national event; it was lived by ordinary Papua New Guineans who carried extraordinary responsibility in that moment.

From the misty valleys of Hagen to the cool mountains of Enga, we witnessed a traditional Pogera-style bride price ceremony in Baiyer. It’s always a beautiful reminder of how diverse and meaningful Papua New Guinea’s traditions are.
