Stay away from jealous people. If you sense jealousy, create distanceāeven when it comes from friends, family, or close connections. Jealousy is never small or harmless; it is a quiet poison that feeds on comparison, resentment, and insecurity. Left unchecked, it can grow into bitterness, sabotage, and even violence. Scripture reminds us that Cain killed Abel because of jealousy, a powerful warning recorded in the Book of Genesis. That story teaches us that jealousy doesnāt just harm the person who carries itāit often destroys the innocent as well.
Love people, but be wise. Wisdom means recognizing patterns, not making excuses for them. Someone who constantly downplays your success, competes with you in silence, or feels uncomfortable when you are progressing is revealing something about their heart. You donāt need to confront everyone, explain yourself, or prove your intentions. Sometimes the wisest response is quiet distance. Set clear boundaries and protect your peace. Not everyone who smiles with you celebrates you, and not everyone close to you is truly for you.
Stop trying to prove your maturity by keeping toxic people around you. š« Maturity is not endurance of harm; it is discernment. Real growth means knowing when to step back, when to say no, and when to walk away without guilt. Kindness does not require self-destruction. You can love people from afar, pray for them, and still refuse to give them access to your life, your energy, and your future.
Being compassionate does not mean being naive. Be kind, but be discerning. Be loving, but be guarded. Protect your peace as if it matters-because it does. šÆ
