Still using the same three photos everywhere?

You work hard to build your business.

Your photos should be helping you do that, not making things harder.

If you’re always searching through your phone for something to post, using the same old headshot over and over, or relying on stock images that don’t really feel like you, might be time for a fresh set of branding photos.

A good branding session can give you months of content.

✔Natural portraits.
✔Behind-the-scenes images.
✔Details of your work.
✔Photos of your process.
✔Images for your website, socials, newsletters and more.

It’s not about looking perfect.
It’s about helping people understand who you are, what you do, and why they can trust you.

A good photoshoot isn’t just about taking nice photos.
It’s about helping people feel comfortable enough to be themselves.

Let’s be honest, it's a weird feeling being in front of a camera.
Almost everyone tells me they're awkward in photos. They're not sure what to do with their hands, they feel nervous about posing, or they're convinced they'll look stiff in every photo.

That's completely normal.

I don't expect you to know what to do. That's my job. I'll guide you through the whole session with simple prompts, gentle direction and plenty of reassurance. As the session goes on, the nerves usually settle and things start to feel much more natural.

One client put it perfectly:

“The photoshoot my daughter and I had with Shannon was incredible and flawless. Shannon was extremely professional, organised, personable, confident and relaxed....before during and after the shoot.... it was so all easy. I was a little anxious but we ended up having so much fun, she directed us and the photos are absolutely next level amazing. ”

That transformation –from arriving a little unsure to leaving saying, "That was actually really fun" - that’s what I want every session to feel like – relaxed, natural
and true to you.

I often get asked before a session “When is the best time of day for photos?”

Well, it depends on the look you're aiming for, but if we're heading outdoors, I almost always love that hour before sunset. The light is softer, warmer and much more flattering than the bright middle-of-the-day sun.

It also tends to feel calmer.

Kids can run and explore without being rushed.
Families can ease into the session.
Business owners can relax into the process.
And instead of squinting into harsh light, we can work with that beautiful glow that makes everything feel a little more natural.

Of course, not every session has to happen at sunset. Some locations work beautifully at different times of day, especially if there is shade, tree cover or filtered light.

But if you’re imagining relaxed beach photos, soft family moments, or branding images with that warm Coromandel feel, golden hour is usually a very good place to start.

Before your session, I’ll help you choose a time that suits the location, the light and the feel you’re after.

There are some places around the Coromandel that just seem to come alive through a camera lens

I love that every location brings something different to a
session. Some are full of adventure and energy, while others are quiet and calm. Some feel bright and bold, others feel soft and dreamy. And some are special simply because they're already part of your story.

That’s why choosing the right location is such a big part of planning a session. It’s not just about where we go. It’s about how you want the photos to feel.

So, I’d love to know where is your favourite Coromandel spot?

Is it a beach, a track, a lookout, a family bach, a hidden picnic spot, or somewhere only you know about?

I've shared 'My Favourite Coromandel Peninsula Photo Shoot Locations (and Why They Work So Well)' in my latest field notes blog.

Imagine having months of content ready to use.

No more scrambling for images when you need to post.

No more using the same headshot over and over.

No more relying on stock photos that don’t really feel like your business.

If your website still relies mostly on stock images, old photos or cropped social media snaps, it might be time for a refresh.

Professional website photography helps people understand who you are, what you do, and why they should trust you.

Here are five photos every website should include:

✔ A welcoming headshot or team photo - People like to know who they’re dealing with.
✔ Images of you at work - Show the process, not just the finished result.
✔ Detail shots - Spaces and small moments help tell the full story.
✔ Photos of your location or workspace - This helps people feel familiar with your business before they even arrive.
✔ Images that show the outcome or experience - What does it feel like to work with you, visit you, buy from you or book with you?

Good website photography does more than make your site look pretty. It builds trust, creates connection and helps your business feel more professional.

When was the last time you updated the photos on your website?

One of the questions I’m often asked is, “What kind of photography do you offer?”

The short answer is: I photograph people, families and businesses in a natural, thoughtful and professional way.

My services include:

Family photography for relaxed, meaningful images of your people.

Personal branding photography for business owners who need images that feel like them and help them show up confidently online.

Commercial photography for businesses needing professional images for websites, marketing, social media and promotional material.

Property imagery, think Airbnb and real estate photographs.

Whether you’re updating your family photos, refreshing your website, building your personal brand, or needing a bank of images for your business, the goal is always the same:

To create photographs that feel natural, useful and true to you.

Not just a quick phone snap or a rushed photo at an event, but a proper shoot where someone helps you feel comfortable, captures you naturally, and creates images you actually love.

For some people, the idea feels exciting.

For others, it feels awkward, nerve-wracking or like something they’ve been putting off for years.

And truly, that’s completely normal.

A big part of a photography shoot is not just the final images. It’s the experience. The guidance, the calm direction, the little prompts, the helping you know what to do with your hands, your smile, your family, your team, or your space.

So I’d love to know…

Have you had professional photos taken before?
Or is it still on your “one day” list?

A little refresh.
My website has had an update to better reflect the different types of photography I now offer – from family sessions through to branding, business and residential photography.

Still natural.

Still relaxed.

Still very much me 😊

When a client asks if I'd consider a sunrise session on the beach, the answer is always yes!

Thank you, Kara, for bringing your beautiful energy to this early morning shoot. Some sessions feel less like work and more like a shared experience, and I absolutely loved creating these images with you. It was a joy to capture a small glimpse of the calm and intention you bring to your work ✨
