We’re delighted to welcome Simon Woolf, as our special guest speaker at the next Wellington Photographic Society meeting (Thursday 12th March).

Simon is one of New Zealand’s most respected and experienced photographers — he has earned multiple national and international qualifications and awards, and has exhibited and judged widely both in Aotearoa and overseas. Simon’s lifelong dedication to photography has also seen him play significant roles in photographic organisations and education in New Zealand.

Photography is in Simon’s blood. He carries on the family legacy begun by his father, Ronald Woolf, who acquired one of Wellington’s oldest photographic studios (originally Spencer Digby, established 1934) in 1960 and built it into one of the capital’s best-known and most esteemed businesses. Over decades, Ron’s work — and now Simon’s continuing vision — has documented countless people, places, and milestones throughout Wellington and beyond.

Simon also has a long and special history with the Wellington Photographic Society, holding Life Membership, and engaging with the club through presentations, workshops, and judging over many years.

His latest project is his beautiful new photography book, Wellington Moods — a curated collection of his favourite black-and-white images celebrating the city’s character, light, landscapes, and people. The book captures Wellington in all its moods.

Please join us for what promises to be an inspiring evening as Simon shares his passion, stories, and photographic insight.

Thursday March 12th, Tararua Tramping Club, 4 Moncrieff St, Doors open 7pm, Members of the public are welcome to attend

Merry Christmas everyone, and all the best for the new year. Many thanks to our members, speakers and everyone who has contributed to the society over the year. We've had some really inspirational events over the course of this year, which were made possible by the generosity and hard work of those mentioned above.

All the best from the Society and we look forward to seeing you all in 2025 🎄

Tonight's 10x10 member presentation has been cancelled due to the severe weather and under the recommendation of the local authorities. We apologise for the previous email implying tonight's event is still on, we were unable to cancel it in time. Please ignore it and stay home if possible.

We are working with the Tararua Tramping Club to see if we can find a new date to host this meeting instead and we will update you once we have something confirmed.

Stay safe,
WPS Committee

Well done to everyone who took part in the Regional Interclub Battle today. It was a tight fight the whole way through, but we ended up coming away from the day with the trophy still in our care.

A big thank you to Whanganui Camera Club for hosting us all, and for creating such a friendly atmosphere. Sadly your placing did not reflect the effort you put into the event.

A massive thank you to the incredible judge – Thomas Busby. He did an amazing job and gave some excellent comments and critiques on each image. He had a great sense of humor and made the event a lot of fun.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to submit their images for this event, whether they ended up on show today or not. It was a very close competition this year!

Congratulations also to competition newcomers Manawatu Camera Club for joining the competition. Great to you have you on board. Regardless of results, really great to see some many keen photographers and awesome photographs in one place!

We look forward to next year at Porirua Camera Club.

And that’s a wrap! 🎉
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make our exhibitions happen — from the organisers and volunteers to everyone who came out to show their support. It was awesome seeing so many people enjoying our members’ photography and celebrating all their hard work!

Big thanks as well to Thistle Hall Community Venue and the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts for hosting us — your teams made the whole process a breeze. And a special shoutout to Rob from the Academy team and Simon Woolf for giving us the opportunity.

Thank you, also belongs to the Societies committee and our members, whose work made both of these exhibitions possible, and their hard work really shone through🙂
