Our members (& members of the public) have been invited to a talk about the exhibition: Now You See Me, a powerful photographic exhibition sharing the lived realities of those with endometriosis.

Now You See Me is built from the real, lived experiences of people with endometriosis and adenomyosis. And real life with chronic illness isn't always comfortable.

Through portraiture and personal storytelling, the exhibition makes visible experiences that are too often hidden or dismissed—including chronic pain, pregnancy loss, infertility, medical trauma and the impact endometriosis can have on relationships, careers and everyday life.

Photographer Ainsley Duyvestyn-Smith will be on site to talk us through the exhibition and answer questions.

Thursday 7pm @ Thistle Hall Gallery, Free Entry, Members of the public are welcome to attend

A huge thank you to Katie Taylor-Duke for judging our annual Projected Image Competition. Katie came highly recommended and provided thoughtful, constructive critique across a diverse range of images and photographic genres.

Thank you as well to everyone who took the time to enter. It was fantastic to see such a wide variety of work from our members.

If you enjoyed seeing the results and would like to be part of a welcoming community of photographers, we’d love to have you join the Wellington Photographic Society. Have you ever wondered how your photography sits alongside the work of other photographers? Our upcoming Projected Image Competition is a great opportunity to find out!

As one of the highlights of the Wellington Photographic Society calendar, this competition brings together photographers of all experience levels to share their creativity, learn from one another, and celebrate the diverse range of images produced by our members.

Whether you're entering a competition for the first time or you're a seasoned regular, it's a welcoming and inspiring evening filled with great photography, friendly conversation, and plenty of ideas to spark your next project.

We'd love to see you there and share in another fantastic night of photography with our community.

Member showcase - At this week's meeting, several of our own members will tell us about either a photographer they admire and why or a new technique they’ve been using and how they learnt it. So, come along and see what's been inspiring some of our members and perhaps get inspired yourself.

From Southland sheep farm to photographing from Air Force aircraft — Colin McDiarmid has had a career like no other.

Now a publicity photographer at Victoria University of Wellington, Colin’s journey has taken him across the globe, capturing everything from military action shots in the air, at sea, and on land, to running his own commercial photography business here in New Zealand.

As he puts it: if he hasn’t photographed it… not many people have.

At our next meeting, hear from Colin McDiarmid, a very experienced commercial photographer who currently works for Victoria University of Wellington as a publicity photographer. He grew up on a Southland sheep farm prior to joining the airforce in 1977.

Colin had a career as a military photographer, where he took action shots from various Air Force aircraft, Naval boats and ships as well as from land based Army vehicles which included traveling the world taking publicity photographs for newspapers and magazines back in NZ, eventually running his own commercial photography business in New Zealand.

As Colin puts it, if he hasn’t photographed it, it is likely not many others have either! Come along to our 14 May meeting at Tararua Tramping Club to hear about Colin’s work. Doors open at 7 for an approximately 7.30 start time.
