Renae Flett did not grow up dreaming of becoming a dairy farmer. Her career began almost by accident.β€œI think it was from a friend who took me to where he was working one day, milking. And from then on I decided cows were fun,” she says. That was around 18 years ago. Since then, Renae has climbed ...

✨ information gathering time πŸ˜… apologies long read….. πŸ„

Hoping some farmers will share with me some
Information im after to help me making a more informed decision on if i invest in inshed feeding or not. More aiming at farmers who have recently gone from a pasture based system like im running now and adding grain based feed blend but also wanting anyones blend types and prices/tonne

✨ i feel ive pushed this farm to its limits on what production i can get out of the cows without compromising their health through just pasture based and with the weather down here being so dramatic and all over the place, the past few years of increased storms (flooding, winds, hot 1day freezing the next and droughts) im hoping inshed may be the answer to help keep the girls a tad happier/healthier during the season an get abit more production out of them. We also have no way of giving accurate minerals we tip some in water troughs and use loose licks on the entry/exit race (i cant run a dosatron due to same water going to troughs goes through the cowshed)

Sort of information im after is
- how much of a rise in production did you get say over the 1st 3yrs (if you can give me an avg % over each year please)
- did it help with overall health and mating results of the herd
- did you run the separate mineral dispenser or just mix minerals and what sort of minerals, where from and cost.
- did you see a return on investment? Asking this as its completely my cost to put this is and wanting to make sure im not wasting my money.
- feed blends used, who through and cost per tonne. Yes i will probably pasture test and use a nutritionist to hep me but im trying to put all costs together to make an informed decision.
- any pros or cons?

Please send me a private message if you happy to share any information.

I do realise every farm and every herd is different its solely me trying to build a rough picture on what inshed could potentially add to this system an being able to roughly build budgets without having reps ring me every 5mins πŸ˜…. If there is any case studies out there people can point me to also greatly appreciated 😁
