๐ƒ๐ˆ๐ƒ ๐˜๐Ž๐” ๐Š๐๐Ž๐– ... that the Sacre-Coeur basilica is 'self-cleaning'? Amazing, isnโ€™t it, that your newly painted white walls have grubby fingermarks all over them, yet that a 100 year old cathedral is gleaming white ... How is that possible?
The architect, Paul Abadie, selected a special (lime) stone found in the quarries of Souppes, in Seinne-et-Marne, which is resistant and impenetrable by water. When it rains, the stone releases a clever substance called โ€˜calciteโ€™, which cleans the stone and keeps it white. Also the Arc de Triomphe and the bridge Alexandre III are built with the same stone.

Thereโ€™s something magical about Paris at dusk โ€ฆ the Eiffel Tower sparkles, cafรฉs glow like cozy little stars, and the Seine shimmers with a golden blush. Did you know the term โ€œmagic hourโ€ isnโ€™t just for photographers? In Paris, itโ€™s the perfect time to sip wine, stroll bridges, and pretend youโ€™re in a movie. And yes, even if you trip over a cobblestoneโ€”very cinematic!

๐Ÿ…ต๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ…ฝ ๐Ÿ…ต๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ…ฒ๐Ÿ†ƒ: The sky over Paris often turns pink, orange, and purple thanks to the cityโ€™s low pollution and flat horizonโ€”basically Mother Nature showing off her watercolor skills ๐ŸŽจ

Whether youโ€™re snapping pics, enjoying a croissant, or just soaking in the glow, dusk in Paris is the perfect reminder that this city doesnโ€™t just shineโ€”it glows!

๐Ÿ“ธ Pro tip: Find a high spot like Montmartre or Pont Alexandre III to catch the best sunset views without fighting the crowds.

Les Invalides: Gold, Glory & a Legendary Emperor โœจ๐Ÿ›๏ธ

That giant golden dome you see shining across Paris? Thatโ€™s Les Invalides, one of the cityโ€™s most impressive landmarksโ€”and yes, itโ€™s real gold on top (over 500,000 gold leaves ๐Ÿ‘€).

Originally built by Louis XIV in 1670 as a hospital for wounded soldiers, Les Invalides is now home to museums, military historyโ€ฆ and Napoleon Bonaparte himself.

โš”๏ธ Napoleonโ€™s Tomb
Beneath the Dome des Invalides lies the monumental tomb of Napoleon I. His remains rest in six nested coffins (including ebony and mahogany), inside a massive red quartzite sarcophagus. The design? So visitors literally look down on himโ€”just as Europe once did.

Why visit?
โ˜‘๏ธJaw-dropping architecture
โ˜‘๏ธPanoramic views from the dome
โ˜‘๏ธOne of the most important military museums in the world
โ˜‘๏ธA deep dive into French (and European) history

Whether youโ€™re a history lover or just chasing iconic Paris sights, Les Invalides is definitely unmissable.

๐Ÿ’ฆ Place de la Concorde: Where history flows like water ๐Ÿ’ฆ

Did you know that Place de la Concorde is the largest square in Paris โ€” and one of the most historically intense spots in the city?

Right between the Champs-ร‰lysรฉes and the Tuileries Garden, this iconic square has seen it all: royal celebrations, the French Revolution (yesโ€ฆ with that guillotine), and today, some of the most elegant fountains in Europe.

๐ŸŒŠ Meet the Fountains of La Concorde
Installed in 1840, the two monumental fountains are inspired by Roman designs and celebrate Franceโ€™s connection to water:

๐Ÿ”น The Fountain of Rivers (Fontaine des Fleuves)
๐Ÿ”น The Fountain of Seas (Fontaine des Mers)

Look closely and youโ€™ll spot statues symbolizing rivers, oceans, fishing, navigation, commerce, and even sea creatures โ€” all finished in striking green and gold details that shimmer beautifully in the Paris sun.

๐Ÿ“ Fun fact:
The fountains were added to balance the visual weight of the Luxor Obelisk, the 3,300-year-old Egyptian monument standing proudly at the center of the square.

Whether youโ€™re passing through, snapping photos, or just soaking up the atmosphere, Place de la Concorde is where Parisian history, art, and elegance collide.

๐Ÿ“ธ Tip: Visit on a sunny day โ€” the fountains truly come alive.
