"It was like you said: we didn't realise you were there!" -Aaron, groom

Thanks so much Amy and Aaron for inviting me to document your intimate family wedding.

Amy said during her emotional speech they have so many friends, they could have gone super large for their wedding.

But they chose to invite immediate family only, for a total of 29 people. Perfect! Although it was noted that single's couldn't hook up at the wedding...

Such a deeply meaningful day with two important family members joining from above. Their presence was felt throughout.

13 guests were invited to Layla’s birthday party… little did they know they were about to witness a marriage.

Layla and Kieran’s love story began with a simple drink in central Christchurch back in December 2010. “The rest is history.”

And what a history they’ve built: nine years engaged, busy growing their beautiful family, and finally ready to say “I do” in the most perfectly unexpected way.

They chose to hold their wedding at home because, “this way no one will figure out the surprise.”

And it worked. Completely stunned guests, followed by laughter, tears, hugs, kids running underfoot, and the warmest kind of celebration.

When they told me, “we thought your style would suit our wedding perfectly,” I knew this day would be all about the people closest to them. Zero fuss. Zero fluff.

With respect to Layla and Kieran’s wishes, photos of children and guests are private just for them.

My new favourite Marlborough vineyard wedding venue: FORREST ESTATE!

I'm so excited to share these photos of our recent styled wedding shoot at Forrest Estate in Renwick.

We wanted to showcase the venue which is available for relaxed small to medium sized garden weddings.

Couples hire the venue (including outside in the garden and inside the sunroom) and bring in vendors of their choice.

They get to DIY decorate to their hearts content, enjoy whichever caterers or food trucks they like and dance under the trees. All the while sipping delightful Forrest wines.

A backyard wedding often looks effortless, but behind the scenes there is a lot to think about.
• Toilets and handwashing stations
• Parking and safe pathways
• Power for lighting, music and catering
• Access for vendors to set up and pack down
• Waste and recycling facilities

Working with a wedding planner and/or a day-of-coordinator can be an incredibly valuable investment in time, stress-reduction and overall budget management.

My favourite wedding photo series

🌳 This photo technically just squeaks into the documentary genre...

It was taken during a short walk around the garden with Hannah and Alex to take some portraits.

I love how Alex is chivalrously (is that a word?) assisting his bride up onto the slippery tree stump. Hannah is so graceful and her veil is trailing beautifully!

I provide outdoorsy people who want to avoid fake poses, with documentary-style wedding and family photography in the Wairarapa and Palmerston North, that can be passed down the generations. I photograph families at all ages and stages: maternity, newborns at home or in the natural environment, families with babies, toddlers, tweens, teens, the young at heart, parents, grandparents even fur babies!
