✨ Milton Business Spotlight: The Whitehorse Inn ✨

Right in the heart of Milton, The Whitehorse Inn is a place to grab a meal, catch up with friends, watch the game, celebrate a special occasion, or simply enjoy a yarn with the locals.
Fiona and the team offer a little bit of everything, with Kink in the Road Restaurant serving up good hearty meals, along with a meeting room and function space catering for up to 60 people. There are also nine accommodation rooms, plus shower facilities available for travellers and workers passing through. The Whitehorse Inn is also home to a TAB self-service, 12 gaming machines, and a Liquorland for takeaway beer, wine and spirits. And of course, there's the main bar - a relaxed spot for fun evenings, live sports and catching up with familiar faces.

Fiona has been part of The Whitehorse Inn for around 10 years and says it's the people who make the place so special. The locals have become a big part of her life, and the sense of community extends right through the doors, with the staff feeling more like family. It's a place where people come for the food, the drinks or the accommodation, but often stay for the company and the conversation.

✨ Milton Business Spotlight: Round 2 Arts ✨

Giving discarded materials a second life, Sara and Keith from Round 2 Arts create unique artworks from things that would otherwise end up in landfill.
Their recycled steel creations include quirky dogs and cats, boots, flowers, and all sorts of imaginative pieces made from steel items that have been given a whole new purpose. They also create their popular wooden garden characters, affectionately known as “Little Fellas”, bringing plenty of personality to gardens and outdoor spaces.

Having lived in Milton for many years, Sara and Keith have watched the town change and evolve. They love the fact that State Highway 1 runs right through the heart of Milton, keeping the main street busy and making it easy for visitors to discover the town and its local businesses.
They're excited to see Milton continuing to grow and look forward to the brighter future ahead, with new projects and developments already bringing fresh energy to the community.

Something's had a proper upgrade, and honestly, I'm buzzing about it.

The tools I built for small business owners in the messy middle. Pricing that makes sense. Content without the trend-chasing. Goals you'll actually finish. All of it modernised, all of it made by someone who's actually lived the 11pm pricing panic before, not just read about it.

Still no hustle culture. Still no 5am club. Just real help, from someone who actually gets it.

I think we've got confidence all wrong. We picture the loud person. The one who's always got something to say. The one who walks into a room like they own it.
But after years of meeting people from every walk of life, I don't think that's confidence at all.

I've photographed people who were terrified to step in front of my camera... and did it anyway.
I've met business owners who doubted every decision they'd ever made... and kept showing up anyway.
I've watched parents wonder if they're doing enough... while quietly giving their kids everything they needed.

That's confidence, to me. Not having all the answers. Not feeling fearless. Just showing up, even while your inner critic won't shut up.

Maybe confidence isn't something you have before you start. Maybe it's something you build because you started.

And if you're waiting until you feel "ready"... you might be waiting a long time.

Drinking tea and reflecting on my recent trip to Australia. And I had one of those quiet gratitude moments. Not because I was there. Because I could be.

Five years ago, taking a week off mid-term wasn't even on my radar. By 2022, life had properly pulled the rug out from under me. 2023 was haaaaard. Days I genuinely didn't know what came next.

So I put every spare dollar into a business coach. Terrifying? Yep. Worth it? Every cent. I asked dumb questions, worked ridiculous hours, cried, doubted myself, kept going anyway, because someone believed in me before I fully believed in myself. Slowly I stopped building a business that just paid the bills, and started building one that gave me choices.

That was always the goal. Not more followers. Not looking impressive online. Freedom, to be there for my boys, to homeschool, to hop on a plane and drink tea with people who fill my cup.

Yes, I take photos. But that's where the story starts, not where it ends. I care less about the pretty moment and more about the person in front of the camera- where they're at, what they're chasing, what's got them stuck. Less someone simply pointing a camera at you, more someone in your corner: cheering louder than you cheer for yourself, telling it to you straight, helping you see what's possible.

Because it was never just about the content. It's about a life you're proud of, one that lets you book the flight without asking anyone's permission.

Their mahi is grounded in tikanga, aroha, and kaitiakitanga, with a focus on working with and creating from what Papatūānuku provides. Through sharing knowledge and practical skills gathered over the years through wānanga with experts from around Aotearoa, Four One Seven ORA supports whānau to strengthen their wellbeing and build sustainable practices that can be carried forward.

For Jillian and Jolz, Milton isn't just where they work, it's home. They love the safety, the beautiful community, and being surrounded by the awa, maunga, ngahere, and the moana just a short drive away. It's a place that gives them a strong connection to both people and whenua, and somewhere they feel proud to call home.

16 years of being a mother. Of learning, loving, adapting, advocating, laughing, crying, and occasionally wondering what the actual f**k I'm doing. 16 years of navigating autism, parenting, and all the highs, lows and impossible bits that come with raising a human. And 16 years of trying my absolute best not to raise a f**kwit.

Lately he'd rather be on his screen than anywhere near me which, let's be honest, makes him exactly like every other 16 year old on the planet. Half the time I'm competing with a computer for his attention and losing badly. And I've caught myself wondering: have I done enough? Am I actually a good mum?

Then last night I went scrolling through old photos and videos. And there I was, over and over- taking him places, trying things, showing up, again and again, even on the days it felt pointless. His growth over these 16years has been phenomenal to watch and experience. So, I'm proud to say, has mine.

Maybe one day Felix will look back and see what I see. A mum who tried. Who loved him fiercely. Who sometimes got it spectacularly wrong. Who kept learning, kept showing up, kept making sure he got to experience as much of this weird, wonderful world as he possibly could.

I hope he remembers the adventures. The laughs. How loved he was. And if he doesn't remember all of it, thank f**k I took the photos! Because that's the thing about photographs: they're not just for the person in them. Sometimes they're for the mum who, sixteen years later, needs reminding that she was there. That she did the things. That she was doing a far better job than she thought.

So take the bloody photos. The blurry ones. The chaotic ones. The ones where nobody's looking at the camera. One day you'll scroll back and think: holy s**t, I really did do this. And I did it well.

Happy 16th birthday, Felix. You've taught me more about unconditional love and patience than anyone else ever has, and watching you sparkle has been the privilege of my life. I love you more than words will ever manage to explain. Now.... how to best remind you of my amazing motherness.... impromptu song or interpretive dance? I know you love when I burst into either....
