Seasons, wherever we are, change, come and go, bringing with them restoration.

We feel the shift together: the soft tilt of light, the hush before rain, the way the world exhales and gathers itself again. What falls away from one of us loosens something in all of us. What returns arrives like a gentle reminder that renewal is not solitary; it is carried in both us and the earth.

In each turning, we are remade not by force, but by the steady patience of time, by the quiet agreement between our bodies and the seasons that hold us.

My paternal grandmother was Welsh, and I remember her as a woman shaped by long years of hardship. The weight she carried forged a kind of armour around her, one she wore even with those she loved. I once asked her why she seemed so hard, and she told me I was too soft and that I’d need to toughen myself to make it through the world.

Maybe she was right in her way, and maybe not. What stays with me is the sharpness of her scolding and the fierce strength behind it. I used to call her the Welsh dragon, a name that held both affection and awe.

Sometimes I wonder if she watches from whatever outer realm she’s travelled to now. My own heart has broken open many times, not from weakness but from the courage it takes to let love in. In that, perhaps, I’ve become my own kind of strong.
