And we are off! I am walking and aqua jogging my way through May to raise funds for the Heart Foundation.
I have set my goal for 15km for the month.(after today I might revise this 😜)
Today come rain or shine I planned to hit the pavement to start my marathon with a walk. Hayley Yates who is running a marathon for the fundraiser joined me at lunchtime to walk around the block knocking off 1km already. We are both in the team at work "Broadway Stars". As a team we have a goal of reaching $3,000. Help us to help those with heart conditions. Head to our fundraising pages and donate now.
What this means:
Every dollar makes a difference:
• $60 could cover the cost of basic tools researchers need to grow heart cells, such as syringes, test tubes, and flasks.
• $75 covers the cost of a primer for a test, that allows a researcher to determine the acidity activity levels within tissue or blood samples, used to diagnose a cardiovascular disease.
• $200 could pay for a DNA test that can help determine genetic factors to identify people at high risk of heart disease.
• $300 could pay for a pipette: essential for dispensing microlitres (0.001ml) of liquid for experiments.
• $600 could pay for antibodies so a researcher can study changes in heart tissues and cells.
• $1200 could enable a researcher to grow mini hearts (bundles of beating heart cells) to study function and develop new treatments.

I am walking/aqua jogging my way to 15km in May. I am participating in the Heart Foundation MyMarathon fundraising event. We can't all run and walk but this is close to my heart (excuse the pun). Our heart is the core of life. I am doing what I can to help support a fantastic cause.https://www.mymarathon.co.nz/fundraisers/broadwaystars
If the link doesn't work, please copy and paste. My work has put together a team to do a marathon. Some are doing the marathon in May, some are doing more. My goal is less but for me, this is my marathon. Please donate to this worthy cause.

Taking a moment. This guy moved quickly along the jetty to get to this point. I had seconds to capture this moment as he climbed onto the post, stopped and paused for a moment to take in the view, then dove into the water. He was so quick I caught this shot and then caught him again on the edge of my frame on the next shot! I love the vast view he is looking at and that fleeting moment of solitude.

On Saturday night after our trip to Milford Sound, I headed down to the iconic jetty of Marakura Wharf. I was not expecting a great sunset but keen to photograph before we left the next morning.
I arrived with people picnicking on the close beach to the lake. I set up and checked out a few things, then headed to photograph a side view of the wharf and sunset. Suddenly, a youth appeared before me. He was keen for a photo. Prompting me to photograph him. After him showing his face within mm of my lense, I convinced him to step back for me to get him in focus.
He was super excited that he was "a model" and now "famous". He had no idea I was a hobby photographer. His friends encouraged him to share his Instagram page. Which he didn't.
I have no idea who you are, but you made my night. Thanks for this shot!

After a quick Google search I found a spot where we could photograph a sunset over Te Anau. Vandy, , and I headed up the hill (after a bit of google map help) to find the lookout. While it wasn't a sunset of epic proportions the light was beautiful. I love how the light gave the grasses and ground a golden glow. It gave me an opportunity of making the best of what I saw rather than it just given to me.

On our annual photography trip this year, we visited Te Anau and Milford Sound in the South Island. We booked accommodation in Te Anau and decided to travel through to Milford Sound using a local tour company (Luxe Tours). This gave us both freedom to relax and enjoy the scenery while enjoying the informative commentary from our guide, Nicky. She was passionate about the area and had a great relaxed nature that made every passenger feel special.
This photo was taken across the road from the Eglinton Valley Camp, where we enjoyed a cuppa and a muffin for morning tea.
While this photo is almost stormy and moody, the view looking back at Te Anau was still blue skies. It was a real comparison of the weather differences between the two places with weather.

Another one from the archives. Wandering around Haumoana, we came across this old farm building covered in graffiti. While photographing this art, I spoke to a local who let me me know that the shed had been opened up to the local youth as a skate park. The farmers who owned it fostered kids, and they decided to create a space for them as a safe space for them to have fun.

Sussing out the local area. Photography trip back Feb this year. Loved these water tanks. Huamoana.

Super excited. My raindrop strands photo was placed Highly Commended in the Black and White category at the Tūhura Otago Museum Wildlife Photography Competition this year. A big thank you to everyone who has supported me while I grow with my photography.
