Last weekend’s trip into the pass brought far more atmosphere than we expected. When we arrived, the air was icy and the clouds looked ready to drop at any moment. We made our way to the Devil’s Punchbowl, where the waterfall was in full force — the flow was extremely fast, spray was coming from every direction, and our gear took more than a few hits of water. Even our hands were stinging from the cold.
At first, the light was flat and moody. Then, just as we were about to call it, the sun broke through from the left side and transformed the entire scene. Golden beams lit up the mist and trees, revealing incredible detail and drama that lasted only a few moments.
These images are the result of that brief window where everything aligned — the cold, the chaos of the water, and the perfect burst of light. As always, social media doesn’t quite do them justice.
