2025 TOP TEN

DOUBTFUL SOUND 🇳🇿

The tell-tale ‘V’ shape of glacial erosion between the mountain peaks of Doubtful Sound is omnipresent. Under moody skies the layers of these slopes and ridges become more defined, and converting the image to black and white adds a little more depth and mystery to the scene.

LYVIA RIVER

Rising in the Dingwall Mountains and draining into Doubtful Sound, Fiordland, we just had to stop to photograph this cascade of the Lyvia River.

DOUBTFUL SOUND

This view of Doubtful Sound from the summit of Wilmot Pass is so often completely shrouded in cloud, so to see it in these moody conditions was a real treat.

LAKE PUKAKI 🇳🇿

We were so close to getting a moody sunrise this morning but things didn’t quite go as hoped! The rain intensified and moved quickly south over the lake, obscuring any view of the mountains and drenching us in the process. Back on the road to chase the light and hopefully find a spot to photograph the oncoming weather. And then this happened! 🌈🌈💥

A totally unexpected sunset at Lake Pukaki this evening! We were expecting heavy cloud but nature will always have its way. Vibrant colour and clear skies overhead for this classic view of Aoraki-Mount Cook.

This is the first night of Muench Workshops 'New Zealand in Spring' photography workshop. Join me here next year - just a couple of places remain for the trip next October.

NEWS JUST IN!

My website gallery has had a major overhaul! All of my New Zealand landscape images are now categorised by subject rather than by location as they were previously. This will improve the site visitor experience, since you can now navigate straight to the type of image you are interested in seeing, rather than having to seek it out from several different places.

One of the categories is called ‘Light, Mood and Weather’ and this is home to some of my favourite New Zealand landscape images where the light and weather conditions have been particularly special, and helped to create some of my best work.

My France and Italy galleries have both been expanded and now include photographs from Paris, Provence and Alsace; and Venice, Tuscany and the Dolomites. My passion for photographing the horses of the Camargue is reflected in them having a page of their own!
