The Langtang region is aptly known by The valley of Glaciers` which runs parallel with the Tibetan border north of Kathmandu. It is sandwiched between the main Himalayan range to the North and a slightly lower range of snowy peaks to the south of Langtang Lirung (7246m) that dominater the valley to the North: Ganga Chhenpo (6388m) and Naya Kanga Ri (5856m) lie to the south and Do the Lakpa (6966m) protects the East end of the valley This isolated region is inhabited by Tamangs whose religious practices, language and dress are much more similar to those of Tibetans.
