Vrangfoss is the Telemark canal’s largest lock with 5 lock chambers and a lift elevation of 23 meters. Before Vrangfoss was made into a canal, it was a 2 km long rapid with a fall of 25 meters through a narrow mountain valley. The waterfall caused problems during timber floating. The canal opened in 1892
