There will be light - one of my newest drawings. A drawing for hope and perseverance, for love and being in the dark together.

The last few drawings waiting for me to finish them, are drawings with a story. Which story? The story that you, as the viewer, feel and see for yourself, but with one common thread: love and yearning.

And, of course, always with a touch of magic and nature. :) And for forest lovers, no fear, there are plenty of new drawings coming soon full of woodland magic.

Turning 30! 💚🌿 Today and tomorrow (26-27 of May) I will celebrate my birthday with some discount and free extra's with every order

(According to Tolkien, Hobbits are adults when they turn 33, so I am good to go for a few more years!)

Some drawings need new depth and a new layer after a while, like this crow-raven. This bird is going to fly towards something very exciting, but more on that later. 🌿

🌿 I regularly received requests to show more behind-the-scenes of my art, so here it is!

The past few weeks have been very rainy here in the Dutch forests, but when it was dry for a few hours, I headed into the woods with my painting supplies and easel.
I love the atmosphere of the forest after the heavy rain (and the smell!)

Intuitively, when painting in nature, I look for a spot that wants to be painted. I found it among the beech and spruce trees.

I also happened to meet two lovely passers-by, Cees and his wife. Cees was out with his camera: he asked if he could take a photo. Of course! I cherish those spontaneous encounters. So, the very first photo of me painting was taken by him. Thank you, Cees! :)

The painting is long from finished; this was just the first layer. I will feel and wait to see who or what wants to reveal itself among these trees, wanting to be painted...

The old folklore of Erica

An old Dutch story tells of Princess Erica and Prince Wander, lovers who enjoyed wandering outdoors across the moors.
However, Erica is kidnapped by a jealous sorcerer who wants her love for himself.
But no matter what the sorcerer tries, Erica remains true to herself and to Wander. Angrily, the sorcerer transforms her into a heather bush, so that no one else can ever love her again.

But to this day, the spirit of Wander roams the moor, faithful to his beloved. Everywhere he has been, he calls her name, and she answers by making the heather bloom. That is why not all the bushes in the moors bloom at once.

Such a tragic love story deserved its own illustration. 🌿I read the story in an old book full of Dutch (Veluwse) folk tales, but I have also seen that the story is known in Germany.
There are several known versions of the story, including one in which the lovers' fathers are at odds and the sorcerer is working on orders from Wander's father.

If it tells us anything, it is that love, no matter how dark everything is, will always shine. 💚

Spring is my favorite season. The forest is awakening, and it is time to set new intentions and wishes. Using an oracle set is a beautiful way to connect with yourself.

Ivy 🌿

The ivy speaks of trust and perseverance despite, and especially with, all that is.

Ivy always finds a way.

Ivy encourages you to look for what is present on your path, what you can reach for to keep going.

I love ivy and the rich symbolism it carries. Ivy was one plant I absolutely wanted to add to the oracle. A card of being evergreen, of light in the dark times.

In the woods, the first baby wild boars have been spotted, which means it is time to share this drawing again. 🌿

The boar has long been a symbol of courage and strength in many cultures. Yet the wild boar itself is a peaceful creature, becoming a fierce opponent only when it, or its young, is threatened.

Of course while always keeping your distance, the wild boar is a beautiful animal to come across in the forest. I am sure there are more drawings featuring this animal to come. ❤️
