𝐁𝐚𝐤𝐚 𝐈𝐃𝐎𝐋 𝐊𝐨 '𝐘𝐚𝐧! 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 ⛹🏀
Idol of the Week is 𝐏𝐚𝐮𝐥 𝐀𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐢 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧 🫡

The 2026 season introduced me to another wave of new and familiar faces on the basketball court, and one player I have consistently encountered throughout the season is Paul Andrei Chan. It seems that wherever the game is, Andrei is never too far from the action. I had the opportunity to see him play at full display during the FTL December Basketball League 2025, which continued through its conclusion in 2026, where he represented Team FTL in the Juniors Division and finished as a strong 1st Runner-Up. This was followed by the Westwood Basketball League 2026 Season 1, where he played for Team Wolves, as well as an appearance in the Alfonso Basketball League Season 3. Most recently, I had another chance to watch him during the For the Love of the Game Basketball Anniversary One-Day League Season 2.

Andrei brings versatility to the court, capable of playing both point guard and shooting guard, allowing him to adjust depending on what his team needs. His well-built physique and strong stature also give him a natural presence on the court. What I appreciate most about his game, however, is his kasipagan—he is willing to work on both ends of the floor. He can attack when opportunities come, defend when his team needs him, and use his quickness and agility to stay with his opponents. That willingness to contribute wherever he is needed is one of the qualities that makes his game stand out.

Including Andrei in the roster of Idols is my way of giving recognition to the skills and effort he continues to bring to every game. It also gives me another opportunity to get to know his game even more. Throughout this season, he has been one of the young players I have kept a close eye on because of the potential he continues to show. There have been moments when his plays have brought him close to making a bigger impact in crucial situations, and while every game comes with its challenges, those experiences are also part of the journey of a young player learning and growing through competition. What remains clear to me is that Andrei has the tools, work ethic, and determination to continue developing his game.

At such a promising age, there is still a lot ahead for Andrei. I hope to see more of his journey on the court, surrounded by the teammates, peers, and support system that continue to push him forward. With the way he works and competes, I am looking forward to seeing how much more he can bring to the game in the seasons ahead.

Junior Idol of the Week is 𝐑𝐚𝐥𝐩𝐡 𝐆𝐚𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐥 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧 🫡

This season, the For the Love of the Game community introduced me to a different basketball experience—a one-day league that brought together players from different backgrounds, each showcasing their own style, strengths, and passion for the game. Despite lasting only a day, the competition was intense, with the continuous pace demanding endurance, focus, and consistency. Among the many talented athletes I had the opportunity to watch during the ODL, Ralph Gabriel Chan was one of the players who left a memorable impression on me.

Ralph was already somewhat familiar to me, as I had seen him watching games from the sidelines and had occasionally caught glimpses of him playing. However, it was during this one-day league that I was able to truly appreciate his game. Playing primarily as a point guard, Ralph showed qualities that fit the position well. He is quick, agile, and capable of creating scoring opportunities, while his movement and confidence allow him to stay active in the flow of the game. For his age and stature, he also has a well-built and athletic physique. He may not be the tallest player on the floor, but his strength and physical presence complement his quickness and help him compete with confidence.

Including Ralph in the roster of Junior Idols gives me an opportunity to recognize what I saw from him while also getting to know his game even more. He may not yet be one of the players I have consistently seen throughout the leagues I cover, but his game is already beginning to speak for itself. At such a young age, there is still room for him to grow, learn, and develop his skills, and I am excited to see what more he can bring to the court. I look forward to seeing Ralph play more games in the future and watching how he continues to develop alongside his teammates, friends, and fellow young players who share the same passion for basketball. This one-day league gave me a glimpse of what he can do, and I hope to see him back on the court again soon.

We are getting closer to a very special milestone for “Baka Idol Ko ’Yan!” 🏀

Since the beginning of the series, my Idol features have generally been players whom I have personally covered and photographed, allowing me to tell their stories through my own lens. But for the 100th Flagship Idol, I am making a special exception.

For the first time, I am opening the opportunity for the basketball community to nominate the player they believe deserves to become part of this milestone.

𝗕𝗘𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗡𝗢𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗘, 𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘 𝗧𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗡𝗢𝗧𝗘:

ONE NOMINEE PER PERSON AND YOU MAY NOMINATE YOURSELF
Each person may nominate only one player. Please choose your nomination carefully. And yes, you may nominate yourself.

18 YEARS OLD AND ABOVE
The nominee must be 18 years old or above. This nomination is specifically for the Flagship Idol category.

PREVIOUS IDOLS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE
Players who have already been featured as either a Flagship Idol or Junior Idol in the “Baka Idol Ko ’Yan!” series cannot be nominated again.

TELL ME WHY
A nomination should be more than simply providing a name. Tell me the player's story, impact, character, journey, or contribution to the basketball community and why you believe they deserve to be the 100th Flagship Idol.

GAME PHOTOS ARE REQUIRED
Please submit a minimum of 10 game photos of the nominee. These will help provide a better understanding of the player and serve as reference during the selection process.

The photos do not have to be taken by DARS PHOTOGRAPHY, but please indicate the photographer or photo source for proper acknowledgment.

PRIORITY WILL BE GIVEN TO REACHABLE PLAYERS
As this is a feature that may require actual coverage, interview, coordination, and photography, priority may be given to nominees who are within the reachable basketball communities and areas covered by DARS PHOTOGRAPHY.

This does not necessarily mean that players from outside the area cannot be nominated. However, accessibility and the possibility of coordinating the feature may be considered during the selection process.

Idol of the Week is 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐟𝐟 𝐁𝐨𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐬𝐭 🫡

This season, I was introduced to a new experience through the For the Love of the Game community—a one-day league format that brought together players from different backgrounds, each showcasing their own style and strengths on the court. Although the event lasted only a day, the level of competition was impressive. The continuous pace of the games demanded endurance, focus, and consistency, making every possession meaningful and giving players little time to slow down. Among the many talented athletes I had the opportunity to watch, one player who immediately left a lasting impression on me was Geoff Boholst.

Watching Geoff play for the first time felt surprisingly familiar, as if I had already seen his game develop over many seasons. As a point guard, he embraces one of the most demanding roles in basketball—the player responsible for setting the team's rhythm, creating opportunities for teammates, making quick decisions under pressure, and controlling the flow of the game. Geoff displayed those qualities with confidence beyond his years. His speed, composure, sharp ball handling, timely passes, and ability to attack the defense stood out throughout the event. Even in a one-day tournament setting, he demonstrated a level of discipline and ex*****on that reflected the habits of a player who has competed in organized, high-level basketball. His varsity background was evident not because of a title, but because of the way he approached every possession with purpose. With the ball in his hands, he naturally became one of the players you couldn't help but follow.

Including Geoff in the roster of Flagship Idols is a reflection of the impact he made through his performance rather than the number of times I've watched him play. Sometimes, a player's understanding of the game, decision-making, and presence on the court speak clearly enough to leave a lasting impression. Geoff is one of those players. I look forward to crossing paths with him again in future competitions and seeing more of his journey. At such a young age, he has already built a strong foundation, and it will be exciting to see where his continued dedication to the game takes him.

Junior Idol of the Week is 𝐂𝐲𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐝𝐲 𝐋𝐚𝐜𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚 🫡

Cyn Thirdy has long been one of the young players I've noticed within the talented Westwood basketball community, especially during their special leagues that not only bring the community together but also provide young athletes with valuable opportunities to develop their game and gain experience on the court.

This season, I had the chance to watch him represent his home team in the inaugural 2026 Alapan 1-B Basketball Kids League, where his steady growth and potential became even more evident. While many young players naturally gravitate toward scoring, Thirdy has shown an appreciation for the less glamorous but equally important side of basketball—defense. His ability to battle for rebounds, challenge possessions, and give his team additional opportunities reflects a willingness to do the work that often goes unnoticed. Rebounding requires timing, positioning, anticipation, and determination, qualities that are beginning to show in his game. For his age, Thirdy also has a taller-than-average frame that helps him compete effectively around the basket. While he is still growing physically and as a player, his natural length gives him an encouraging foundation as a defender and rebounder, with plenty of room to continue developing.

I've also seen him compete in the Lakersfield Basketball Community, another environment known for developing and showcasing promising young talent. Including Thirdy among my Junior Idols is an exciting opportunity to follow his journey more closely. Surrounded by a close-knit family that shares the same passion for basketball, he continues to grow in an environment that encourages learning and development. His journey is still unfolding, but he is certainly one of the young players whose progress will be exciting to watch in the seasons ahead.
