My entry to street photography awards this year. Also, my first. My student, Diana urged me to submit this photograph to a competition. So this one popped in my mind without any doubt.

is one of the most inspiring and impactful art exhibits I have ever seen. It happens every two years in Hengelo, NL.
I went there yesterday with my dear artsy friend

I was stunned by the collection and how each artist had a unique visual voice and mindset. Art brut is instrumental in representing artists who are struggling with some mental or psychological challenge. In my opinion, they are peaceful warriors, independent thinkers and revolutionaries in their own right. Truly inspired, we ended the day making our own versions in a cardboard box with live uplifting orchestra music in the background.

Made these portraits for in her old neighborhood. Soon many people here would lose their old home, including her. So many stories would be lost forever. It was a privilege to photograph her in this special place. Hopefully, these pictures will carry forward the story of this place. What an honour to photograph
I love her work and to be honest, I was a little nervous to make pictures for her. The location is extra special as it’s her old neighborhood. While walking around in this airy and peaceful location, started questioning the concept of home. What it means and is it just where you feel safe…but then places hold their own energy. It’s okay to miss a place and more so when you know it won’t look the same in future, as it’s the case with this neighborhood.

Flowers blooming, and the clouds coming down on us….and let’s not talk about the winds. It was truly magical, dramatic, in-your-face kind of killer beauty.
