Baptism: Spiritual Healing in the sea

One of my recently discovered and immediately favourite work of art by South African artist Sthembiso Sibisi.

I love the role of the surfer in the painting. Often surfers refer to being in the ocean as ‘spiritual healing’ but in this painting that’s not why she’s in there.
To be seen at the ‘When we see us’ exhibition in Brussels! Definitely worth the visit!

Nazaré’s is probably coming next week, a tow-in format which is great when the waves are massive!

In 2018 the last Nazaré Challenge took place on this legendary spot. A paddle contest!
I just loved the critical drops, paddle battles, positioning, split waves, wipe outs and a few barrels.
Of course the waves were relatively ‘smaller’ than what people would expect from Portugal’s pride but the place has many faces so in my opinion it would be great to have the paddle contest back!

After all the big wave surfing noise has gone, Praia do Norte also just a beautiful beach where you can enjoy wonderful sunsets in almost solitary conditions.
