A little preview of the mornings I’m ready for… 🍂

Coffee in bed, warm croissants, crumpled linen and absolutely no reason to get dressed before noon. The first whisper of autumn isn’t always found in falling leaves — sometimes it’s simply the moment when staying in begins to feel more tempting than going out.

Consider this my official application for a slow, cosy autumn morning. Preferably with a second croissant.

The important question: plain croissant or pain au chocolat?

Apparently, the Netherlands isn’t quite ready to let go of summer.

Another spell of tropical heat is on its way — and yet, somewhere between sun-warmed woodland paths and the first pale-gold leaves, I can already feel it.

Not autumn. Not yet.

Just a croissant wrapped in paper, two pears in the bicycle basket, a blanket for an unhurried picnic… and the faintest whisper of the season to come.

Perhaps that is the loveliest part of August: summer is still here, but autumn has quietly started leaving little clues.

Some things make absolutely no practical difference to your life — and somehow make everyday life feel so much nicer anyway.

This little terracotta pomegranate is one of those things for me.

It’s Santa Maria Novella’s scented Melograno — part home fragrance, part beautiful object, and completely unnecessary in the very best way. I found mine at Skins

And it is exactly the kind of thing I mean when I talk about Tiny Luxuries on Essy’s Pictures.

Not necessarily the big purchases. More often, it’s the small things that make an ordinary day feel a little more lovely: the glass you always choose for your iced coffee, ridiculously nice hand soap, perfume even when you’re staying home, fresh sheets… or apparently, in my case, a scented Florentine pomegranate.

I love showing both, because that is really what Essy’s Pictures is becoming for me: a place to collect and share the things, rituals and tiny details that I genuinely get excited about — the ones that make everyday life feel more beautiful, more personal and simply a bit more fun.

I’ve just published a new Tiny Luxuries story on the website about this slightly peculiar little object, why I love it so much and why I think beautiful, unnecessary things sometimes have a perfectly valid place in life.

I’ve been away from Instagram for quite a while.

Somewhere along the way, I fell a little out of love with the platform. The constant changes, trying to keep up with the algorithm and feeling as though every post had to fight for its place slowly took the joy out of creating.

At the same time, I started a new job that has kept me wonderfully busy and demanded a great deal of my attention. So, for a while, Essy’s Pictures became quiet.

But I kept missing it.

I missed making beautiful things. I missed collecting ideas, creating imagery and sharing the small details that make everyday life feel warmer, more inspiring and a little more special.

For quite some time, I had been wondering how I could return to that feeling in a way that would remain joyful and manageable. A place where I could bring together everything I love, without feeling as though I had to constantly keep up.

That is how Essy’s Essentials came to life.

A new editorial world on the Essy’s Pictures website, filled with seasonal living, slow and cosy moments, beauty, travel, recipes, thoughtful rituals, beautifully organised living and practical, creative ways to use AI in everyday life.

It is a place for everything that inspires me — and hopefully, a place that will inspire you too.
