I have had four months to say these words, but it took until now to sit down, choose my favorite images, and process my thoughts about this very special couple and moment in Amsterdam.
Firstly, I got to go to Amsterdam! A treat. The first time here, I vaguely recall a visit to Anne Frank’s house, some tulips, & one of my first memories of an underage Malbec at an Argentinian restaurant. This time, over a decade later, I experienced immense hospitality, good coffee and food, dunking a bitterballen, and hesitantly hopped on a bike, doin’ like Dutch do.
The trip wasn’t enough time. It was a blip. But wow, the short time spent was not wasted. .vukovich + prepared a delicious dinner for me upon arrival, and because the sun set so late, we had time to (firstly meet each other) laugh, and chat about nonsense all before shooting some images out in the city. I can’t believe the ways my ‘clients’ can turn into instant friends. They invited me, a rando, to stay at their home, mind you, before even shooting their wedding. Before even taking one photo. And I let myself, arguably a risk-averse person, do it! It was perfect. Being in their presence was pure comfort, comedy, and warmth. I felt so blessed. Some may say that the rain ruined our plans, but I think we can all agree it wouldn’t have been Amsterdam otherwise, it wouldn’t have been reminiscent of their life together otherwise. And this is what I came to the city to do! Gift them a symbol and memory of their life as it is, in Amsterdam.
That night, I watched Ginny and Georgia at Chelsea’s house, felt a bit of fomo so I walked to get late night tikka masala in the rain, and had a good night’s sleep. The next morning, I had a good coffee, met with Chels and biked to a cute lunch spot, and we met Markus for a few more images in the park on his lunch break. The photoshoot itself was perfect for being untraditional, fast, and fun. We strayed away from executing something way too produced, and when we done, we just met for a last drink before saying our goodbyes. This week, I get to do this again with them here in California, now with their friends and family who have travelled from far & near.
