THE RULES OF ACTING

The essential rules of acting focus on craft, presence and professional discipline. Classic fundamental guides outline ten core principles every Actor should follow to build a believable character and a strong career.

CORE RULES OF THE CRAFT

1.TRAIN CONSTANTLY: Treat acting as a serious skill that needs regular practice, class and study.

2.LISTEN AND REACT: True acting is responding truthfully to your scene partner, not just waiting for your next line.

3.KNOW YOUR CHARACTER: Understand your character's goals, fears and background completely.

4.DON'T PLAN THE EMOTION: Stay in the present moment instead of forcing or faking how a scene should be.

5.EMBRACE VULNERABILITY: Let your guard down to make your performance honest and powerful.

PROFESSIONALISM AND SET ETIQUETTE

6.BE EARLY: Arrive ahead of time for every rehearsal, class, shoot and audition.

7.BE POLITE: Treat everyone - the Cast and Crew, with respect.

8.NO EXCUSES: Own your mistakes and commit fully without blaming outside factors.

9.TAKE DIRECTION WELL: Listen to feedback and adapt your performance without taking notes personally.

10.PROTECT THE STORY: Support the overall scene and avoid selfish habits like upstaging (taking attention and focus away from another person) others.
