WHO IS MORE UNYEADA THAN I AM???
MY ROOTS, MY HERITAGE, MY IDENTITY: TRACING MY LINEAGE TO UNYEADA
For the avoidance of doubt, and for the benefit of those questioning my ancestral roots, I consider it necessary to put on record the genealogy of my family and our historical connections to Unyeada, Ajakajak, Ibotirem, and Dema.
My family lineage, as passed down through our ancestral history, is traced as follows:
Eneyok → Waribo Otaman → Robert → Ebirien (Dimkpa) → Dr. Luke → Dr. Mobene.
This is the direct line through which I trace my ancestry, connecting me to the historical roots of the Otuibok Compound in Unyeada.
My great-grandfather, Chief Waribo, also known as Otaman, Chief Eneyork, or Eneyo, was one of the founding fathers of old Unyeada and the head Chief of the Otuibok Compound. His history and lineage are deeply rooted in Unyeada, with descendants and family branches established in other communities through marriages and family relationships.
Let me trace these connections clearly.
1. UNYEADA — THE ROOT OF MY PATERNAL LINEAGE
Chief Waribo was established in Unyeada, where he served as Chief Eneyork and headed the Otuibok Compound. He begat Robert through a wife he married from Dema, who belonged to the Oyetile dynasty.
Through Robert, our family maintains a connection to the Oyetile family of Unyeada, particularly the Egop family.
Robert, my grandfather, later left Unyeada and married the daughter of King Ifritam of Inyong, Oron. This marriage forms another chapter in our family’s history, but it does not erase our ancestral connection to Unyeada.
2. AJAKAJAK — THE TENDENG LINE
Chief Waribo also had children through other marriages, including Tendeng, the father of Pastor Jonah Waribo, Frank Waribo, and others associated with the Okanama family of Ajakajak.
This is another branch of the wider Waribo lineage, demonstrating how descendants of the same ancestor established themselves in different communities.
3. IBOTIREM — THE ENEYO LINE
At Ibotirem, Chief Waribo maintained his base as Chief Eneyork, the head Chief of the Otuibok Compound.
According to our family history, Chief Waribo had a son Ananjin and Ananjin subsequently begat Emmanuel Eneyo, Saturday Eneyo, and others.
Ananjin served as the personal aide of Chief Waribo, a position known as Ogoedim-uji. He was brought from Asarama under certain conditions to serve Chief Waribo.
This is the Eneyork or Eneyo family line.
This establishes another branch of the wider Otuibok family connection at Ibotirem.
4. DEMA — THE MATERNAL CONNECTION
As earlier stated, Robert’s mother came from the Oyetile dynasty of Dema. Robert also had brothers and sisters who established themselves in Dema, further extending our family’s connections to that community.
LET THE RECORD BE CLEAR
My ancestral lineage is traced through Eneyok, Waribo Otaman, Robert, Ebirien (Dimkpa), Dr. Luke, and Dr. Mobene.
Our ancestral history connects us to Unyeada, with other branches of the family established in Ajakajak, Ibotirem, and Dema.
My story is a story of lineage, migration, marriage, and heritage.
I respect every family and community connected to this history. However, I believe our genealogy should be discussed with respect for family records, oral history, and the testimony of those who understand our ancestral connections.
I know the history through which I trace my lineage to Unyeada. Our roots deserve to be acknowledged, and our family history deserves to be preserved for generations yet unborn.
History is best preserved when we document it, verify it, and pass it on with integrity.
