Biafra Heroes’ Remembrance Day May 30

Today, we pause to remember and honour our fallen heroes and the millions of beloved souls lost during the Biafran War (1967–1970).

*Key Events of the War:*

1966: Anti Igbo pogroms and massacres in the North forced millions to flee to the East.

May 30, 1967: The Republic of Biafra declared independence under Lt. Col. Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

July 6, 1967: Nigerian forces launched a full scale invasion, marking the beginning of the war.
The conflict saw fierce battles, Biafran advances into the Mid West, and a devastating federal blockade.
Starvation became a weapon kwashiorkor claimed hundreds of thousands, especially children.

January 15, 1970: Biafra surrendered after over 2.5–3 million deaths from fighting, disease, and famine.
Why We Must Always Remember:
We remember the courage, resilience, and ultimate sacrifice of our people who fought not just for survival, but for dignity,
self determination, and a better future. We remember the innocent lives lost, the families torn apart, and the spirit of resistance that refused to die.

Today, I especially remember my Grandfather displaced and separated from his family during the war. Your memory lives on, Grandpa. The fire πŸ”₯ that IKENGA put into my hands remains very active.
As long as the sun rises in the East, the story of Biafra, the Land of the Rising Sun, will be told. Their sacrifice will be written in our hearts and observed from generation to generation never to end.
May the souls of our departed heroes rest in perfect peace. Their struggle was not in vain.
