Inuwa Yahaya Receives National Award as Best Performing Governor in Health Care Delivery
..As Presidency Celebrates Excellence in Public Service
..Gombe Governor Dedicates Award to State's Healthcare Workers, Citizens

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON has received a distinguished award for excellence in governance.

The award was presented to the Governor by Vice President Kashim Shettima on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during the 2024 Nigeria Excellence Awards in Public Service (NEAPS) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Saturday, 6th July 2024.

Inuwa Yahaya was honored as the best-performing Governor in Governance, Health Sector, in recognition of his significant contributions to healthcare development in the state.

He was earlier nominated for this prestigious award, alongside other public servants by the Presidency through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), in collaboration with a reputable outfit, Best Strategic Media (BSM).

Delivering the President's speech titled, "Honouring the Heartbeats of Public Service," Vice President Shettima, restated the Federal Government's determination "to create an environment where merit is rewarded, and where every public servant feels valued and motivated to give their best".

This, he said, is not just about the awards ceremony, but about embedding a culture of recognition and reward in the ethos of the country's public service.

According to him, "reward and recognition are the very markers of every thriving institution, and indeed, nation," even as he noted that "the essence of any successful entity, whether a private enterprise or public institution, lies in its ability to honor those who work to uphold its values and drive its progress.

The President showered praises on Governor Inuwa Yahaya and other Nigerian public servants, maintaining that their place must be remembered to motivate them to inspire others and make clear "that excellence is not an orphan".

Beyond a mere ceremony to recognize the unsung heroes who keep the wheels of government and society turning beyond expectations, President Tinubu said NEAPS also plays a crucial role in introducing "more role models to a nation in search of mentors and to tell the awardees that we see them, and the excellence with which they have served the nation.

In his welcome address, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, explained that the process of selecting the distinguished honourees was based on empirical facts and figures that are verifiable.

The SGF assured that efforts would be made to ensure the initiative is maintained as a regular feature to motivate and encourage excellence in the country's public service.

He urged recipients of the awards not to relent in their efforts toward making Nigeria a more prosperous and progressive country.

Speaking to newsmen after the event, Governor Inuwa Yahaya dedicated the award to the people of Gombe State, and in particular, all the state's healthcare workers, urging them to see the honor as another opportunity to provide more effective and efficient service to the people.

While expressing gratitude to the presidency and the collaborating firm, BSM for recognizing his modest achievements in governance and the health sector, Governor Inuwa emphasized “We are inspired by this recognition to redouble our efforts in uplifting the lives of the people of Gombe state".

The Governor was accompanied to the ceremony by the Hon. Minister of Transportation, Sen. Saidu Ahmed Alkali, Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon Usman Bello Kumo, Deputy Speaker of Gombe State House of Assembly, Hon. Sadam Bello, Hon. A Time Comes In Our Life
Our Awakening

A time comes in our life when we finally get it. When in the midst of all our fears and insanity, we stop dead in our tracks, and somewhere the voice inside our head cries out ~ ENOUGH!

Enough fighting and crying and struggling to hold on. And, like a child quieting down after a blind tantrum, our sobs begin to subside, we shudder once or twice, we blink back our tears, and through a mantle of wet lashes we begin to look at the world through new eyes.

This is our awakening.

We realize that it's time to stop hoping and waiting for something to change, or for happiness, safety and security to come galloping over the next horizon. We come to terms with the fact that he/she is not Prince Charming or Cinderella, and we are not Cinderella or Prince Charming!

We awaken to the fact that we are not perfect, that not everyone will always love, appreciate, or approve of who or what we are, and that's okay. (They're entitled to their own views and opinions.) And we learn the importance of loving and championing ourselves; and in the process a sense of newfound confidence is born of self-approval.

We stop complaining and blaming other people for the things they did to us (or didn't do for us) and we learn that the only thing we can really count on is God (the supernatural power of the universe.)

We learn that people don't always say what they mean or mean what they say, and sometimes they don't even know themselves.

We also learn that not everyone will always be there for us; and that it's not always about us. So, we learn to stand on our own, and to take care of ourselves, and in the process, a sense of safety and security is born of self-reliance.

We stop judging and pointing fingers and we begin to accept people as they are, and to overlook their shortcomings and human frailties; and in the process, a sense of peace and contentment is born of forgiveness.

We realize that much of the way we view ourselves and the world around us, is as a result of all the messages and opinions that have been ingrained into our psyche.

We begin to sift through all that we've been fed about how we should behave, how we should look, and how much we should weigh; what we should wear and where we should shop, and what we should drive; how and where we should live, and what we should do for a living; who we should sleep with, who we should marry, and what we should expect of a marriage; the importance of having and raising children, or what we owe our parents.

We learn to open up to new worlds and different points of view. And we begin reassessing and redefining who we are and what we really stand for.
