Ndokwa Vanguard Publisher Wins As President Of South South Writers Forum

Writers in South South under the aegis of South South Writers Forum, SOSOWFO had the maiden edition of her International Convention. The event held between March 13, 2025 which was arrival day and spanned till March 16, 2025 which was departure day. The event held at Loccocoon Hotels Ltd. Kwale.
The Theme of the convention was "Building the Creative Economy of the South South Region of Nigeria: The Role of Writers" with Dr Peter Omoko as the Keynote Speaker.
During the period of the convention they had election to usher in National Executive Committee that would run the affairs of the body in the next four years; had the maiden Annual General Meeting, AGM, went on tour to Ogume Grammar School, Ogume, Umukwata Kingdom where they were amazed at the giant strides of HRM Friday Abaja and also visited the source of River Ethiope at Umuaja. It was a richly packaged convention.
At Ogume Grammar School, they sensitized the students about the forum and enjoined them to take their books seriously, stressing that they were there at the instance of Uncle Alaska Ekele an eminent Old Boy of the school. They informed the students that they would be organizing healthy academic competitions among schools in the Geo-political zone. Before leaving, they promised donating some of their books to the school through Alaska Ekele.
During election which held on Saturday, March 15, 2025 candidates were screened thoroughly and were given ten minutes each to present their manifestos by the Dr BC Anyanwu led Electoral Committee. At the end of the exercise candidates for the offices of Assistant General Secretary and Treasurer were screened out as they could not give account of themselves. Those that passed the litmus test and elected were
Uncle Alaska Ekele - President
Mrs Joy Esuku - Vice President
Prof Ofonime Inyang - General Secretary
Chief Nelson Ulie - Financial Secretary
Dr Rita Inoma-Abbey - Legal Adviser and
Mrs Esther Dominic Nwabuisi - Publicity Secretary.
As for the vacant offices, members were asked to aspire as bye-election would be conducted in due course. The winners were issued Certificate of Return by Dr BC Anyanwu and were inaugurated by Barrister Donatus Chukwuma.
In his acceptance speech on behalf of other elected national officers Uncle Alaska Ekele thanked members for finding him worthy of leading them and also thanked the Electoral Committee for professional, successful and peaceful conduct of the election. He said with the new crop of national officers, the forum would surely get to greater heights. As a new beginning he has collapsed all the existing state chapters and charged all members to plot a graph that would usher in new committees at the state levels to be inaugurated by the National Executive Committee in due course. He enjoined members to go for membership drive.
Far reaching decisions were taken during the AGM. Notable was to honour HRM Friday Abaja the Ukwata 1 of Umukwata Kingdom with a Prestigious award for transforming his community and for touching lives. As a mark of honour to the first National President, Uncle Alaska Ekele, it was agreed that headquarters of South South Writers Forum, SOSOWFO to be established in Ndokwa land. Uncle Ekele according to the forum has done creditably well that without him the group may have collapsed and may not have been registered with Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC. Students across board were given waivers for free membership.
The group would be making policy statements through press releases, come up with a communique and to act as a watchdog to the region. It was indeed a successful convention with Akwa Ibom state given the hosting right for next the 2026 convention.

OUR ATABA-WREAKED YOUTHS
BY
PROFESSOR STEVE A. OKECHA
There are THREE words that I hardly use in my posts on Whatsapp platforms. First, I have never mentioned the name of the Senator representing us, for personal reasons. The man had been [and is still] my friend. I encouraged a few vibrant young politicians [in my town], in his party, to support him during the elections. And they did. You can verify. “Anioma” is another word that I sparingly use. Because it is a historical distortion. The third word is “NDOKWA,” which is a flagrant misrepresentation of a long established, God-given ethnic group.
Somehow, I tend not to love the Senator’s style of representation when he said:
that he would actualise Anioma state creation, perhaps, single-handedly.
that he would eradicate mosquitoes in Africa – the whole of Africa! Not even Nigeria.
that he would push for a common language for Africa.
that he would advocate for a common currency for Africa.
Personally, I believe that he has more important things to do than engaging in frivolities.
The Senator appears not to fraternise much with his own political party now-from his physical posture and utterances.
As I reflect, I have come to the conclusion that some Ndokwa people, to some extent, are contributing to the Senator’s intractable travail. A number of Ndokwa hungry, political jobbers, who pose as his supporters and born-again media men and women are fast destroying the man’s public image. I sympathise with the Senator. Their recklessness, their rudeness, their insults, their impunity, their arrogance and their rascality are doing incalculable harm to their pay master. The Ika and Aniocha people do not appear to exhibit such level of irresponsibility.
I once read a shocking post of an Ndokwa man [the Senator’s aide] who said:
“I am Ibo. I am from Abbi.
Abbi people are Ibo people.”
I was perplexed. No Abbi man or woman challenged the young man.
I am identity-conscious and proudly ethnocentric. On 16 November, 2024, I posted a quotable quote titled, “Loss of Self-Identity on NNU Whatsapp platform:
Loss of Self-Identity
“An Ukwuani man, who, in
his thirties, suddenly transforms
into an Ibo man, while his
living parents are proudly Ukwuani,
deserves a wide bed space
in a psychiatric clinic.”
The young man, under the pseudoname, “We Want Ned,” [Phone: 07062549233], responded on Anioma People’s Forum, saying:
“Pro Steve Okecha is the real
person that deserves a very wide
space in a psychiatric clinic.”
No elder called him to order. However, five young men confronted the rude man stoutly and fiercely [their names withheld for privacy], asking him to apologise in vain.
This errand boy of the Senator, later compared me to his father, who had since passed at 84 years. He said his father was greater than me; that I was not equal to his father. And I laughed. I hope he knows that his father’s name was not captured in Newswatch Who’s Who in Nigeria. I hope he knows that his father was not mentioned in Africa’s Who’s Who. I hope he knows that his father was not listed in Who’s Who in the World [Marquis]. I hope he knows that Steve Agwo Okecha is a revered chief [Okwanuzo-Osa of Obaruku] in Ukwuaniland.
The Senator’s reckless media man could NOT read and comprehend what I had posted. I did not mention anyone’s name. I mentioned “living parents,” [not parent]. The man has no father. So how does my post apply to him? He had earlier claimed that he and Abbi people were Ibos. So how does he now transform into Ibo?
I have contacted my lawyer in Lagos, who said that the man could, and should be sued for LIBEL. I would have pardoned him, being Chief Chris Enuenwosu’s nephew. But, perhaps, he needs to appear in court a member of times to flush out his ataba-induced courage and stubbornness.
The young man is a notorious Casanova, who unzips his trousers so readily, impregnating teenage girls from street to street. He is an embarrassment to the society. He certainly is.
The Abbi-Ibo man recently boasted in a post that he would fight to resist the Isokos from encroaching on Ndolwaland. Grandstanding! Empty noise! He is unaware that there are 3-4 traditional relers of Isoko extraction, operating effectively in their kingdoms on Ndokwa East soil.
To end this discourse, I wish to call on ALL our people in the academia to wake up. Right now. When they remain mute, some beggarly, igbo-smoking youths [men and women] will aspire to lead us, and plunge our land into extinction. These hungry youths should be confined to where they rightly belong – the dungeon of irrelevance.

Senator Ned Nwoko Honoured as a "Beacon of Hope"; Empowers Entrepreneurs with ₦5 Million During Media Parley

By Gloria Okolugbo

Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko reaffirmed his dedication to Nigerian empowerment and national development during a media engagement that critically examined five key bills he sponsored in the Senate. The Senator demonstrated his support for grassroots growth by providing ₦5 million to budding entrepreneurs.

In an emotional moment, young Nigerians honored him with the "Beacon of Hope for a Dignified Future" award, recognizing his visionary leadership and impactful legislative efforts.

The event featured an interactive session with mothers, young professionals, and self-employed individuals. Senator Nwoko shared insights into his recovery of $1.2 million in frozen funds through British authorities, emphasizing the importance of integrity in wealth acquisition. He addressed the global stigmatization of Nigerians, linking it to a lack of leadership and opportunities, which often leads to criminal activities.

Highlighting his fight against malaria, the Senator called out the insufficient commitment of stakeholders in tackling the disease, emphasizing that solutions are within Nigeria's reach with stronger leadership and resource mobilization.

He assured participants that his office’s Directorate of Communication would sustain regular interactive sessions to gather feedback and address gaps in legislation.

The event concluded with the Senator receiving gifts, including his favorite sports kits, in recognition of his contributions to sports development and scholarships for students at his newly established Sports University.

This engagement underscored Senator Nwoko's commitment to impactful legislation, empowering citizens, and fostering meaningful connections with the people.

[Somehow, by divine calculation, the first five persons listed above are my cousins. The list was not made in accordance with the physical size or financial status or political weight or intellectual prowess of an individual. The list was randomly compiled without prejudice. I have, therefore, no apologies].
I am pained, thoroughly pained, that even with the above array of personalities from our land, some of our semi-literate youths [parading fake, oyoyo university degrees], now pose as our path-finders. As our spokespersons. As our leaders!
Something is wrong with our land. Quo vadis? Where are we going?
Our land is not developing because many of our politicians are afraid to confront government at federal and sub-national levels. Our LGAs are jokers. We, as a people, have failed to ask pertinent questions in relevant quarters. Why are we so myopic; so blindfolded; so focusless; so unpatriotic; so DEFT? People take us for a ride so easily.
Beautiful girls from our land; elegant spinsters from land; good-looking widows from our land; dashy grandmothers from our land, often troop out to the homes of politicians of other ethnic groups to serve as errand-girls. For money! For food! They are usually treated with scorn; sometimes, dehumanised and dewomanised. We weep for them, and pray for their “deliverance.”
Today, in some of our communities, 25 – 30-year old men and women become chiefs. Chieftaincy titles are never inherited in our land, am I right?
My grouse against our crumb-seeking youths is that they are extremely rude to elders. They insult elders incautiously, and debase our culture. These youths are, unfortunately, not interested in our future. What they want is “small change” from their pay masters. There is one very raw and loud young man, who, not long ago, could not afford to pay the primary school examination fees for his two daughters. He was helped with TEN thousand Naira [N10,000] by a generous politician from his town. Yet the young man has been campaigning ceaselessly for state creation. Walls, they say, have ears.
I laugh when I see some Ukwuani-Ndosumili people still run around IGNORANTLY campaigning for the creation of Anioma state, not even Ukwuani of Ndokwa state. I find it puzzling. My questions are: Are these people living in Nigeria or not? State creation is no longer a hot button issue in Nigeria. Why don’t they gauge the mood of the nation? Who is interested in state creation now in Nigeria? Why state creation when many existing ones are no more viable? Here, in Delta North, the agitation for state creation is an INDUSTRY!
The principal agitator represents our people in the National Assembly. Let me make it clear, that he is my friend. During the campaigns for the senate, I called to encourage and wish him well. I made him the Chief Presenter when my latest book was presented to the public at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Lagos, on 27 April, 2024 – SEVEN MONTHS AGO. He was represented by his Media Aide: Ifetayo Moses Adeniyi at the event. We are, no doubt, buddies.
I wish, however, to ask some basic questions: why is he calling for a common currency for Africa? Why is he advocating for a common language for the whole of Africa? How will he achieve these? In his capacity as a senator? Does he represent Nigeria in ECOWAS or Africa Union? Where lies his power? Why is he calling for ALL Nigerians to own arms? Are these really what our people voted for him for? Are these Ukwuani-Ndosulili priorities? Again, I am puzzled; yes, puzzled.
I say it for the umpteenth time, that Anioma state CANNOT and will NOT be created. Bad news! Anybody who still believes that it will be created is OLD SKOOL. My friend, the principal agitator, in his heart of hearts, probably knows, that the creation of Anioma state is IMPOSSIBLE. I am yet to understand, why he has chosen to make state creation a pastime for some gullible persons.
Some of our people have definitely lost their ability to reason and retionalise. There is poverty of the mind in our land. There is poverty of logic also in our land.
A few Ukwuani people once said that, “We are Ibos”, because Okowa, an Ika man, has said, “I am Ibo.” This is ridiculous-blatantly ludicrous. Do ALL Ikas say that they are Ibos? Those Ukwuani people should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.
A society collapses or crumbles in several ways: one of which, is for the elders and the intelligentsia to be mute, while the ignorant, unschooled and ill-mannered persons call the shots, and direct community affairs.
God bless our land.
