When people say that — “Hausa people are not brilliant”, I laugh very hard at them.
Most times, simply cause a typical Hausa man cannot speak a fluent English, without the use of mother tongue, then people assume they are not brilliant.
Especially igbos in the east, and Yorubas in the west that haven’t stayed in the North. They are just over there, and just because a typical Hausa man no matter how educated will always call:
Paper as fafer.
President as fresident.
Opay as ofay.
Fanta as Panta.
Office as opis.
Fourty five as Porty pipe.
Being brilliant isn’t from how you speak so well, nor how your flow of English is.
I’ve seen and met people who are very good in english, they got the accent, but nothing is upstairs.
If you are Igbo, or Yoruba; your greatest regret and fear is meeting a Hausa person who is brilliant in class. Omo! No matter how hard you try, you can never ever béát them.
E dey hard to béát hausa person wey sabi book.
Meet this little 17 years old Hausa girl from Yobe state.
Her name is Nafisa Abdullah Aminu.
