Mole-Isheri: The Ancestral Deity Connecting Isheri and Igbogbo Kingdom.

Yesterday 19/02/2025, following a brief meeting with the Oba Abdulsemiu Orimadegun Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, Oba (Engr.) Sulaiman Adekunle Bamgbade – Ayodele III, Olofin of Isheri, Adimula of Awori Kingdom, paid homage to the Mole-Isheri deity, a sacred ancestral link between the indigenes of Isheri and Igbogbo.

Historically, a faction of the Olofin royal family, along with their followers, migrated from ancient Isheri town to Igbogbo to settle amongst the Ijebus, carrying the Mole-Isheri deity with them. This movement strengthened the deep-rooted spiritual, cultural, and historical connections between both communities, further unifying their shared heritage under the enduring presence of the deity.

The Sacred Blessings of Mole-Isheri

The Mole-Isheri deity is regarded as a powerful source of divine blessings, prosperity, and protection for the people. It is traditionally worshipped in both Isheri and Igbogbo every 10th month of the year, during which elaborate rituals and offerings are made to seek favor for the community’s growth, stability, and harmony.

During the appeasement of the deity, the spirit of Olofin Ogunfuminire—the legendary progenitor of the Awori people—is invoked, signifying the continuation of his spiritual presence among his descendants. Additionally, the Agemo Iwa Gun, a revered masquerade deeply tied to the spiritual essence of the deity, performs traditional dances, adding to the sacredness and vibrancy of the festival.

The worship of Mole-Isheri stands as a testament to the resilience of tradition, the bond between past and present generations, and the unbreakable unity between Isheri and Igbogbo.
