: "Insecurity Is Basically a Product of Poverty" — Rotimi Amaechi's 2013 BBC HARDtalk Interview Resurfaces

"Insecurity is basically a product of poverty, and what the government needs to do, including my government at the state level, is to address poverty.

To address poverty, you have to focus on education. You have to focus on industrialization, and industrialization can only thrive when there is reliable power.

When you address education, power, and healthcare, you create a population that is employable. And once people are employed, the problem of insecurity will be greatly reduced."

— Rotimi Amaechi, speaking during a HARDtalk interview on July 25, 2013, while serving as Governor of Rivers State.
