The recent completion of a project by one of our team member Sr Mohd Epy Azrai Maula Hamzah, MRISM for a client last week in Penang has further emphasised the need of on-site inspections in maintaining correct land use maps. Although remote sensing and drone monitoring technologies offer useful information, they might not be able to fully capture the subtleties seen during in-person inspections.

Making educated judgements about land use is improved by combining remote data with on-site inspections, which provide crucial context and firsthand observations. Here are several strong arguments in favour of the necessity of on-site inspections, including those for our most recent project.

Ground Truthing: On-site inspections, such as the most recent project completed by Epy, are used to confirm the accuracy of data gathered by drones and other remote sensing devices. This procedure makes sure that the data collected remotely accurately reflects the actual circumstances on the ground.
Detailed Observations: on-site visits by Epy gave him the opportunity to spot and record particular features and changes that weren't necessarily visible in aerial images or satellite data for the client.

Real-Time Adaptations: On-site inspections, gives the client flexibility to adjust to modifications or unforeseen circumstances, giving them the chance to update their land use map in real-time if necessary.

Despite the revolutionary effects of remote sensing and drone monitoring technologies on land use mapping, on-site inspections, as demonstrated by a recent initiative of one of our team members, continue to be a crucial part of thorough and accurate updates to land use maps. A holistic approach to land use planning and decision-making results from incorporating both remote data and on-site observations, including the direct expertise from our team at Geomapic!
