Selamat Hari Raya from all of us at Women Photographers Malaysia ✨

Today we are featuring 📸

Suriyanita Sidek is a photographer and Creative Director with over 21 years of experience in the creative industry. Her journey began with a deep passion for photography, which grew into a career and business, and today she continues to inspire the next generation as a lecturer, sharing her knowledge and experience.

“Eid is not only about going home… sometimes, it’s about finding a second home in the people you work with.

Grateful for moments like this, where laughter, stories, and joy are shared beyond family ties. Because celebration doesn’t always come from where you’re from, but from who you’re with.”

In this frame, Hari Raya is seen not just as a return to tradition, but as a celebration of togetherness in all its forms, reminding us that home can also be found in the people around us.

If you’re celebrating, share your moments with us by tagging and using to be featured.

As we close the chapter on 2025 and reflect on this year, we couldn’t be more proud to witness our community flourish through photographs that captured not just light and composition, but courage, authenticity and the unique perspective each woman brings to her craft. Here’s to the remarkable journey we’ve shared, the brilliant stories yet to unfold, and empowering more women along the way!

“This photo was taken during one of my travels to Xi’an, China. It was my first day in China and after checking into the hotel, we walked along the streets to find some food. That is when I came across this street food vendor working under the glow of his stall lights.

There was something captivating about the simplicity of the scene, the stillness, the focus, and the warmth of the light against the night.

I wanted to capture this photo also because it reminded me of the times when I’m buying something. It’s either I use Google Translate as a way to communicate with them, or sign language. But something about interacting with them in those ways was very engaging because in this particular region of China I was in, the people here are not very exposed to other cultures or other races. I’m an Indian from Malaysia, so when they see me, they are all in awe and excited to see and interact with someone who looks different from them.”

📸:

Kirthana is a photographer who finds photography to be her way of slowing down and connecting with the world around her. Through people, places, and fleeting moments, she loves capturing real moments and stories in her portrait and travel work. This approach to photography reminds her to pause and find beauty in the everyday.

WPM Best Nine: October Edition “Festival of Lights”

This month’s edition celebrates the glow of light in all its forms, from festive lamps to lanterns that brighten new beginnings. Each tradition reflects how light connects us through shared warmth, colour, and hope. 🌟

We’re excited to feature a thoughtful curation by , a Johor Bahru–based photographer who captures life’s most meaningful moments through her lens, focusing on event photography. For her, every photo is more than just an image, it’s a feeling. She beautifully preserves laughter, love, and life’s little details that words can’t express, because moments may fade, but memories stay forever.

Curator’s Note:

“A radiant series capturing the beauty of unity in diversity. From the golden diyas of Deepavali symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness, to the vibrant chariot processions and glowing oil lamps of Thaipusam representing devotion and endurance, and the shimmering lanterns of Chinese festivals that illuminate hopes and new beginnings, each frame tells a story of faith, colour, and togetherness. These moments of light remind us that across all traditions, the glow of celebration connects hearts, transcending culture and language.”

🪔 The Light of Togetherness A Deepavali Morning with Sabrina

The first morning of Deepavali arrives with joy in the air, the sound of laughter, the fragrance of fresh flowers, oil lamps glowing softly, and the sparkle of new clothes. The home feels alive with elders’ blessings, children’s giggles, and the kitchen filled with the aroma of sweet treats and curries made with love.

These photographs capture the celebration of togetherness, cherished memories, and the love that makes every moment shine. 🪔✨
