It’s my husbands birthday today🥳 so to commemorate the occasion I digged up some photos from us that I always wanted to work on. A dream holiday in a true paradise setting🤩📸

Spring 2026, Home

My 6 year-old practicing how to write.

Kindergarden in Dubai was still all about playful leaning for my son last year. When we moved to Mexico, Santi was faced with a big cultural and academic change. Our school is demanding and homework in reading, writing or math became a daily task. It was important to me to capture these hours that we dedicated to learning and are times of bonding too.

In addition to the storytelling these images are all about a different use of light. I usually shoot outdoors and almost exclusively in natural light. I don’t care much for studio photography and living in warm places we are spoilt with warm natural light😅 I like how these turned out though, the sharp contrast of light and shadow, the natural dark frame that’s stripping away all distractions of the background📸✨

Summer 2025, North Germany

This is the same location as the post before last, but this time focussing on the sunflowers rather then the windmill. I love the way Siena leans in to the flower that was as tall as her. Sunflowers also are my favourite flowers, which are yours? ☺️🌻

And originally I wanted to edit a few more images, but then I changed so much in this first one - I do like to obsess about the little details😂 - I figured it will be fun to share a Before/After. I hope you like my edit; any questions or comments let’s hear it🙂

Shortly after we moved to Huatulco, Mexico we went curtain-shopping😃 Oaxaca is famous for their pedal looms and we wanted something colourful and authentic, natural and handcrafted. We found the perfect match in the wonderful shop Textiles Biuluz ✨ The owners, Olivia and Jorge came to our place, took the measurements and created several sets of traditional curtains exactly to our liking. Me and the kids visited the workshop again to see how they are made and it was so impressive to see Jorge work the huge telar expertly😁 This may be a common sight here in Oaxaca, for us it was new and very interesting! He kindly allowed me to give it a go which was the best part - it’s hard work (my attempt on slide 7)! 😁 And I took my camera for some pictures📸

Summer 2025 & 2024, North Germany

Usually, around this time of year I would be visiting the Baltic Coast where I grew up. Because I’m not, I’m sifting through old photos that I never got around working on. The first 4 images are from last year and I might have worked some melancholia in there when I edited them late last night. The others are from summer 2024, when we first discovered it. My kids were just 8 and 4 years old at the time🥰

I remember clearly how happy I was when we ‘found’ this old windmill that had access so I could photograph. Windmills are iconic landmarks in Northern Europe, visible from afar in the flat landscape. They hold so much history and nostalgia for me✨

Hola! This wasn’t a post I had planned on doing actually😉 But we just completed the first full school year here in Mexico with Santiago finishing KG3 and Siena completing 4th grade. And when I saw that Santi was to wear this cute little prom outfit for his closing ceremony I couldn’t resist. So we headed to the beach for a few minutes, I took some pictures and we had the ceremony yesterday with Santi officially no longer being a Kindergarten kid🥲

Now that also means no more homework, exams and early morning chaos for the foreseeable future😁 Looking forward to our summer vacations! 😁

Editing is such an important part of the process for me. Why? Sometimes photos are near perfect in camera, often they are not, especially with family sessions when there’s an element of chaos😅 That’s what I fix in post-processing. Removing distractions (people, objects, scratches, etc.), adjust colours and lighting, brighten faces, draw the eye to where I want it to be. I pay attention to every single detail making sure each photo is worth printing and hanging on the wall. You just need to choose which one😊

La edición de fotos es una parte tan importante del proceso para mí. Por qué? A veces las fotos son casi perfectas al sacarlas con la cámara, pero la mayoría de las veces no lo son, especialmente cuando hay niños involucrados😀 Eso es lo que corrijo en la postproducción. Elimino distracciones (gente, objetos, arañazos…), ajusto colores y luces, ilumino rostros, dirijo la mirada hacia donde quiero que esté. Presto atención a cada detalle para asegurarme de que cada foto valga la pena imprimirla y colgarla en la pared. Solo tienes que elegir cuál😊

DOUBLE EXPOSURES - I’ve been sitting with this idea centering around maternity for a while, however this is harder than I thought it would be🙈 For every creation that I hesitantly share there are 10 others that I throw out. I learned editing with Lightroom which I taught myself, but Double Exposures (unless done in camera) have to be mastered in Photoshop which for the most part is new territory for me. So while studying this fascinating technique I am also learning a complex new program. Here is hoping this will someday come as easy and natural as editing any regular photo👌 In the meantime I’m putting in the work. What do you think about this latest attempt? I am wishing all the mummies near and far a beautiful and blessed Mother’s Day today!🌷🫶 My mum who passed on so much knowledge and wisdom, my girlfriends in different countries whose kids often were my kids first playmates, my lovely Dubai female clients and my new Huatulco contacts - you are in my thoughts today🌻
