Mponda downplays early surge: "Too early to talk about second place"
Masters FC head coach Peter Mponda has played down his side’s early rise to second place on the table, insisting it is still too early in the season to focus on standings or points accumulated.
His comments come after Masters FC secured a hard-fought 2-1 away victory over Karonga United in the FDH Premiership on Sunday, a result that lifted the team from third to second position after just two matches.
Mponda, however, stressed that the league table means little at this stage, saying the priority remains building a team that performs consistently rather than chasing early position gains.
"We are still working on the team. It is too early to talk about six points or being in position two. The main focus is improving how we play," he indicated.
Despite his caution, the coach praised his players’ fighting spirit in the comeback win, as Masters FC continue it's promising start to life in the top flight.
