Last evening, a police officer from Goliati Police Unit in Thyolo, Peter Messa, reportedly fired teargas in his house, where he had allegedly locked his wife and two children in, over marital disagreements.
According to eye witnesses, it took some well-wishers and some police officers to force open the house and rescue the mother and children.
Meanwhile, Thyolo Police Spokesperson Amos Tione, claims the teargas firing, was an accidental discharge, and that the officer will be summoned for discipline.
