Kaiveni Mathi – Laamu Tradition, Hithadhoo Style ❤️
Kaiveni Mathi is more than a tradition, it’s the heartbeat of Laamu’s heritage. A moment when the groom’s side visits the bride’s home to receive her, marking the beginning of a new chapter.
But in Hithadhoo, it becomes something deeper. They don’t just follow the custom; they bring it to life with laughter, unity, and overflowing love. Even when the bride is from their own island, they go crowned with flowers, carrying gifts, and dancing to the rhythm of BODUBERU ✨
There’s a warmth in their spirit, a bond that ties every soul together. In Hithadhoo, Kaiveni Mathi isn’t just witnessed it’s felt. It’s a celebration of love, of people who give their all, and of a community whose joy echoes far beyond the drums.

Special thanks to Rhythm Boduberu Group for the amazing song that brought this moment to life. 🎶❤️ Rhythm Boduberu

Weddings are always special, not just for the couple , but for everyone present who gets to witness and celebrate their love. ❤️ As a photographer, I’ve captured countless love stories, each one unique and unforgettable. But sometimes, life gifts you moments that remind you just how meaningful this work is.

At a recent wedding I was photographing, I had a beautiful surprise. Among the guests was a couple whose wedding I had captured years ago. But this time, they weren’t alone—they were there with their beautiful daughter 💕! Seeing them brought an overwhelming wave of emotion.

I couldn’t help but remember their special day: the way they looked at each other, the energy and excitement of their families, and all the little moments I had the privilege of preserving. Now, here they were, years later, with their love story growing into something even more beautiful.

Meeting them in such an unexpected setting reminded me of the lasting impact of the work I do. Those images from their wedding aren’t just photos; they’re a piece of their journey, a keepsake of where it all began.

To that wonderful couple—thank you for the reminder of why I love what I do. And to the newlyweds I was there for that day, may your journey be just as beautiful and full of surprises.❤️😇

Kaiveni Mathi: A Celebration of Love and Unity in Hahdhunmathi

In the Hahdhunmathi region, a place of enduring traditions and strong community bonds, the custom of Kaiveni Mathi stands out as a unique and cherished event. This celebration, which marks the official welcome of a bride from another island, is a grand occasion that involves the entire island.

Before modern technology and transportation, the journey to bring the bride home was a community affair. The entire island would come together, walking through villages in a festive procession. For journeys between islands, they would sail on Riyadhoani—traditional wooden boats that carried not only the bride but the collective joy and blessings of the people. These journeys were accompanied by boduberu, blessings, and an air of anticipation, turning the act of travel into a celebration of unity and love.

Even today, the essence of this tradition remains unchanged. When the bride arrives in Hahdhunmathi, she is not greeted by just her new family but by the entire island, reflecting the community’s role in embracing her as one of their own.

At the heart of Kaiveni Mathi is the preparation of farivalha, a traditional feast that showcases the culinary heritage of Hahdhunmathi. This special dish includes beloved island flavors like bondibaiy (sweet rice pudding), hanaakurimas (spiced, smoked fish), and other local delicacies. The making of farivalha is a shared effort, with families and neighbors coming together to cook and celebrate the occasion.

The day of Kaiveni Mathi is marked by boduberu, traditional songs, and the rhythmic beats of beru. The bride is welcomed with blessings, gifts, and heartfelt wishes as she steps into her new home. Sharing the feast becomes a beautiful act of love and unity, strengthening the bonds of the community.

For the people of Hahdhunmathi, Kaiveni Mathi is more than a tradition. It is a celebration of love, shared heritage, and the enduring spirit of togetherness. Through this grand event, the community preserves its values and culture, ensuring that future generations carry forward the beauty of this tradition.
