〰️✦ A very special experience to be part of Analog Art Affair.

I’m deeply grateful for the many visitors, conversations, questions and the generous interest in my work. It was the first time I presented this selection of my analogue works together in this form, including unique pieces created through experimental processes such as Liquid Light, works on paper and wood, and pieces incorporating gold dust.

For me, these techniques are never an end in themselves. They are part of a broader artistic practice in which material, memory, biography, place and personal history come together across different projects.

I was also very happy to present a selection of platinum-palladium prints by my Georgian colleagues from Kamo Studio, which received wonderful feedback as well! Kamo Studio

🜁 A few fragments from the archive — brought together for this Saturday.

Choosing what to bring to the Analog Art Affair was harder than I expected… What you see here is only a tiny glimpse: works from different series and different moments, including Séance, Hall of Fame, Dracula and my recent Revisiting the Bride.

For me, technique has never been decoration. It is part of the concept, part of the language. When digital photography began to transform the medium around 25 years ago, I became increasingly interested in analogue processes precisely because they resist perfect repetition — every print carries its own material history, its own trace. Questions around reproduction and originality, also through Walter Benjamin, have stayed with me ever since...

Returning to the archive is never just about looking back. It brings back memories, different versions of yourself, and sometimes makes it possible to see the work — and your own path — more clearly.

From the archive: Antrag auf Weltuntergang (Application for the End of the World), 2003

While going through my archive for Analog Art Affair, I came across this early work again, sharing just a few fragments here from a much larger series and artist book.

Photography has never been only a way for me to describe the visible world. It has always been a way of giving form to an inner one — to emotions, memories and states that are difficult to name.

„Antrag auf Weltuntergang“ was created during a very vulnerable period in my life. Looking back now, I see how much the work speaks about trauma, emotional exposure and those moments when we act against our own needs — through choices, patterns or relationships that leave us feeling unprotected…

I photographed a close friend and projected these inner states onto the female body. The figure became less a portrait than a psychological space.

The images were made with Liquid Light on raw linen. For me, the analogue process is never decoration. The fragile emulsion, rough textile, imperfections and ruptures are part of the meaning itself — the material carries the same tension as the image.

More than twenty years later, I still feel very close to this idea of photography: not only as an image of the world around us, but as a way of making an invisible inner reality tangible.

INFINITY WORLDS 🌀🔍

From everyday objects to imagined universes…

Yesterday, together with my wonderful colleague PORTRAIT AND DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY , we explored reflections, double exposures, experimental photography and playful sculptural interventions inspired by Yayoi Kusama and Erwin Wurm…

The most beautiful part? Participants aged 8 to 80+ creating, questioning and inspiring one another. Everyday materials became unexpected visual worlds, shaped by curiosity, imagination and the participants’ own ideas.

A beautiful reminder that art can connect generations, cultures and ways of seeing…

MEGA DROUGHT
2018 — revisited in 2026

These images were created in late July 2018, during an exceptionally dry summer in Germany. I collected dried leaves, plants and insects exactly as I found them, placed them on a photocopier, and later photographed the resulting copies.

What began as an exploration of fragility and transience has taken on a different meaning over time.

As many regions around the world continue to experience prolonged droughts and increasingly destructive wildfires, I find myself thinking back to the smoke drifting across the horizon near Nîmes on my way to Arles, and to the smell of burnt vegetation lingering in the air…

This series is not about catastrophe. It is about traces. About absence. About the quiet beauty and fragility of what remains…

Looking back at the 2nd IPFA Meeting in Barcelona. 🌍📸

A few intense days of panel discussions, presentations, portfolio reviews, and conversations with colleagues from all five continents. More importantly, they were days of exchanging ideas, building new connections, and planting the seeds for future collaborations.

It was a real honour to represent Kolga Tbilisi Photo Festival, as well as Georgia and many of the artists connected to our festival, within this international network of photography professionals.

My sincere thanks to the entire IPFA team for bringing together such a diverse and engaged community. Events like these remind us that photography is not only about images—it is about dialogue, collaboration, and creating opportunities across borders.

Barcelona was the perfect setting for all of this.

Until next time—we already have new ideas to continue. 💛💪🏽🎉

There are places that ask nothing of you except to stay a little longer… 🦋⛵️

It doesn’t take long to understand why this landscape found its way into Salvador Dalí’s imagination. The rocks seem to shift between realities; every cliff suggests another profile, another creature, another story. Even a papaya can suddenly feel strangely cubist…;-)

The evenings belong to the cats. They gather by the harbour, filling the air with voices that make me think of Murakami’s Kafka on the Shore—where conversations with cats never seem entirely impossible…

Between swims, I wandered through galleries: the opening of Koyama’s and Robert Campini’s exhibition at Galeria Patrick J. Tomken, and the luminous paintings of Élodie Loiseleur at Taller Tabakov, where colour quietly becomes its own language…

The rest of the time… I followed the example of the small sculptures on the beach: staying still long enough for the light, the sea, and a few new ideas to find me…📝📸🌅

More impressions from Arles… 📸👀

I spent a few inspiring days during the opening week of Les Rencontres d’Arles 2026. It’s impossible to see everything—the festival continues until September—but here are a few exhibitions I would especially recommend.

Among my highlights were Sammy Baloji, whose work connects colonial history with personal memory, Ming Smith’s poetic exploration of light and movement, and the long-overdue tribute to Felicia Abban, Ghana’s first professional female photographer.

I was equally fascinated by the interdisciplinary work of Lara Tabet & Yasmine Chemali, Meghann Riepenhoff’s camera-less cyanotypes, the moving tribute to Olivier Metzger, and Rebekka Deubner’s thoughtful reflection on environmental activism and long-term engagement.

A special recommendation is We Are Not Alone, curated by Philippe Baudouin, exploring the intersection of photography, belief systems and documentary imagination, featuring artists including Gui Christ. I also loved James Casebere’s immersive installation at Les Collatéraux, presented by Publicis Luxe.

Beyond the exhibitions, it was wonderful to reconnect with colleagues and friends—including Sanne De Wilde, Marc Lathuillière, Christina Fontsare and Dirk Gebhardt, among many others. These conversations are what make Arles such a unique meeting place for the international photography community.

And finally… I’ll definitely miss our beautiful Provençal house—the perfect retreat after long festival days 🌊

Looking forward to following the rest of this year’s festival from afar. ⛵️💃🏽
