📌 Engine Parts Explained: Piston, Crankshaft, Camshaft & More Made Simple:
An engine is the powerhouse of a vehicle. It converts the chemical energy of fuel into mechanical power to move the wheels. To achieve this, several important parts work together in perfect synchronization.
1. Piston –
The piston is a cylindrical part that moves up and down inside the engine cylinder. It compresses the air-fuel mixture and receives the force of combustion.
2. Connecting Rod –
The connecting rod links the piston to the crankshaft. It transfers the piston's up-and-down motion into rotary motion.
3. Crankshaft –
The crankshaft is the main rotating shaft. As the connecting rod pushes it, the crankshaft converts reciprocating motion into continuous rotary power that drives the vehicle.
4. Flywheel –
The flywheel is a heavy circular disc attached to the crankshaft. It stores energy, smooths out vibrations, and keeps the crankshaft spinning between power strokes.
5. Camshaft –
The camshaft controls the opening and closing of intake and exhaust valves. This ensures proper entry of the air-fuel mixture and exit of exhaust gases at the correct timing.
6. Drive Belt –
The drive belt, also called the timing belt, connects the crankshaft and camshaft. It maintains perfect synchronization between piston movement and valve operation.
7. Oil Sump –
The oil sump, or oil pan, is fitted at the bottom of the engine. It stores engine oil, which is pumped around to lubricate moving parts, reduce friction, and carry away heat
