While capturing a quiet moment, I noticed this vibrant little spectator pulling off a flawless security camera impersonation! Meet the Purple-rumped Sunbird (Leptocoma zeylonica), a tiny marvel native to the Indian subcontinent, including our beautiful Sri Lanka. 🇱🇰💚

🌿 Meet the Purple-rumped Sunbird / සූටික්කාගේ අපූර්වත්වය
English Description:

The Look: The male is a living jewel, flashing a metallic green crown, a deep purple throat and rump, and a brilliant lemon-yellow underbelly.

Diet & Behavior: Unlike hummingbirds that hover, these energetic sunbirds prefer to firmly perch on twigs (or in this case, a security camera!) while using their curved beaks to lap up sweet nectar from flowers.

Plunging down a sheer cliff face of 263 meters (863 feet), Bambarakanda Falls stands proudly as the tallest waterfall in Sri Lanka. But look closely to the left—this unique aerial perspective also captures the crest of the beautiful, secluded Lanka Ella Falls, shaped remarkably like the map of our motherland.
