ශ්රී මේඝ - Sri Megha
මේ වතාවෙත් කුමන ආවෙ Scentගෙ පැටියව කොහොමහරි බලන්න හිතාගන. ඒවුනාට අපේ දවස් තුනෙන් පළවෙනි දවස් එකහමාරම හොදටම වැස්ස. Leopard sightings එකක්වත් තිබ්බෙ නෑ. Mating coupleඑකක් ඉන්නව කියල කියපු නිසා දවල් 1.00 ඉදල කුමන වැව පාරෙ වාහනය නවත්තගන හිටිය පැයක් විතර. අපේ luckඑකට mating coupleඑක අපිට 50m විතර ඉස්සරහින් පාරට ඇවිත් විනාඩි 20ක් විතර පාරෙ ඉදල ගිහිල්ල. වෙන කිසිම හෝඩුවාවක් නැති තැන අපි කිරිගල්බේ පැත්තට එන්ඩ හැරුන. ඒත් මගදි ආරංචිවුනා පැටිය ඉදල පාරදිගේ ආපහු ගිහින් කියල. ඒත් අපි කෝකටත් කියල bungalow පාරට හැරෙව්ව. මෙන්න එතකොට මෙයා වහනයකින් වැටුන Bean Bag එකකුත් අරගන පාර අයිනට වෙලා ඒක හප හප සෙල්ලම් කරනව.
මේඝගෙ වයස දැන් අවුරුද්දයි. සාමාන්යයෙන් පිරිමි කොටි පැටියෙක් අම්මත් එක්ක අවුරුදු 2ක් ඉන්නව. කොටි අම්ම පැටියව අනිත් ලොකු පිරිමි කොටින්ගෙන් ආරක්ෂා කරන අතරම එයාව හොදට train කරනව hunt කරන්ඩ වගේම survive වෙන්ඩත්. සත්තු කියල නෑ අම්ම කියන්නෙ අම්මම තමයි නේද?
This time too, I came to Kumana determined to somehow see Scent's cub. However, out of our three days, it rained heavily for the first day and a half. There wasn't a single leopard sighting. Since we heard there was a mating couple around, we parked our vehicle on the Kumana Wewa (Tank) road from 1:00 PM for about an hour. Lucky for us, the mating couple came onto the road about 50m ahead of us, stayed on the road for about 20 minutes, and then left.
With no other clues in sight, we turned to head back towards the Kirigalbe area. But along the way, we heard that the cub had been around and had gone back along the road. Even so, just in case, we turned onto the bungalow road. And lo and behold, there he was by the side of the road, playing with and chewing on a bean bag that had fallen from a vehicle!
Megha is now one year old. Generally, a male leopard cub stays with its mother for about two years. While protecting the cub from other large male leopards, the mother leopard trains him well on how to hunt as well as how to survive. Animals or not, a mother is always a mother, isn't she?
