Girls' Festival - Hina Matsuri

Hina-Matsuri, also known as the Girls’ Day, is a traditional Japanese doll festival celebrated on March 3rd every year. It is a symbolic festival to celebrate young females, for their wellness and happiness. The festival highlights traditional Japanese crafts - handcrafted fabric dolls and features hung on red cords and a set of ornamental dolls called Hina-ningyo displayed on platforms covered with a red-carpet representing the emperor, empress, attendants, and artists of the Heian period.
In Miyagi, this traditional festival can be esteemed at the Sairi residence in Marumori Town. Now opened as a Historical Museum, Sairi residence was home to a wealthy merchant family – Saito Family – who lived through generations in Marumori town. It now displays a few of the most traditional Japanese charms including the displays of Hina-Matsuri.
