Kirito once promised Sachi that he would help her escape Sword Art Online and return to the real world—a place where she could live without fear, see the sky again, and experience the future that awaited her beyond Aincrad.
But that promise was never fulfilled.
According to the events shown in Sword Art Online Episode 3, Sachi's death is implied to have occurred on June 12, 2023, during the tragic trap incident on Floor 27 that wiped out the Moonlit Black Cats guild. While later official materials would place the event on June 22, many fans remember June 12 as the date presented within the episode itself.
Sachi was one of the players most affected by the fear of dying inside the game. Every day, she struggled with the reality that a single mistake could mean the end of her life. During those difficult moments, Kirito became someone she trusted. He comforted her, reassured her, and promised that they would survive together and eventually return to the real world.
Yet when the moment that mattered most arrived, he could not keep that promise.
Some fans argue that Kirito shares responsibility for what happened. As the strongest member of the group, he concealed the truth about his level and experience.
