🖤 One of the most inspiring workshops I have ever led 🙏
🌿 As part of Breathing Landscapes exhibition, this Creative Workshop is about exploring ‘Seeing the Unseen’ — the art of cultivating a dialogue with what moves you, with what stirs within — not just about chasing beauty, but more so listening to the voice within and giving it expression...

🎨 We drew inspiration from Van Gogh, Rothko and Wu Guanzhong — artists who saw and painted beyond the visible. I also shared my own piece, Allowing.

🌸 Participants went into the world to create. Then we gathered for somatic experiencing and body awareness using flower essence.

✨ What emerged spoke through many voices, participants expressed with watercolour, iPad painting , journalling, photography, video art...

💬 In their own words:
🌟 “Moments like this of suddenly noticing an object or image can bring joy... the world outside hasn’t stopped but I feel more embodied.”
🌟 “Frances’ artwork touched my heart and helped me unpack some of my experiences... I acknowledged and embraced my own passion. It was an amazing session.” .thebodyworker
🌟 “I found a precious silence in my heart. It was there that I finally felt a sense of space that truly belonged to me... Seeing my own unseen.”

🙏🖤 Thank you for letting beauty overflow — your sharing and discovery gave new life to everyone in the room

“A vibration that stayed with us long after the exhibition ended 🙏🖤
Thank you .chishing for blanketing Breathing Landscapes with your original echoes and tunes from the mountain. Your music created an inner space — a quiet place to breathe, to sit, and let the photographs speak to us between the notes.

Not only at the closing ceremony, but from Day 1 onwards 🙏🖤”

.chishing

The Hong Kong chapter of Breathing Landscapes is drawing to a close. On 16 May 4pm, Kung Chi Shing, fresh from a month-long mountain retreat, shares his Breathing Landscapes in a live music performance.

Deeply grateful to Almond Chu for his generosity in allowing us to use his iconic portrait of Kung Chi-shing for the Breathing Landscapes Closing Ceremony poster. This portrait is one of many featuring Hong Kong's art and cultural luminaries in his book The Urbanites, published by MCCM Creations.

"Kung's long hair is his trademark, and I imagined it would be quite dramatic to see him playing the violin with his hair flowing. To achieve this, I asked him to jump upwards while playing the violin, hoping he would jump as many times as possible. Finally, after jumping up and down for half an hour, he suddenly stopped and said, 'Almond, I can't take it anymore! I can't shoot any more!' And that's how we finished the shoot! I'm sure he regretted agreeing to have his photo taken by me!" 🤪

Creative Workshop ·
Not what looks right — but what you truly feel.

This Sunday, 10 May, Frances Tong leads an intimate creative workshop inside Breathing Landscapes — for photographers, sketchers, writers, and anyone who creates.

Set aside the rules. Break the conventions. Create like it’s the first time.

What is the subject, place, feeling, or memory you feel most deeply connected to — that you want to express? It does not have to be grand.
It just has to be yours.

Bring your creative tools — camera, sketchbook, journal, pencils, markers, whatever you create with. And bring that feeling with you.
That is where we will begin.

The essence of photography lies in the unseen.
Venerable Changlin

At the *Breathing Landscapes* Dialogue Beyond Boundaries, Venerable Changlin spoke about what photography truly is — not what the eye sees, but what the heart feels.

Breathing Landscapes opened last night.
To everyone who came out in the pouring rain — thank you. Just as I stood in blizzards to make these photographs, you braved the storm to be there.

This is not just a photography exhibition. It is a space to breathe — immersive, and unlike anything else in Hong Kong. Intimate yet with monumental photographs up to 5 x 7 feet. Texts written in the moment, on the mountain. Hidden in every corner, waiting for you to discover.

At the heart of the exhibition is the Breathing Room — a private moment that belongs only to you.
From stillness to inspiration. From rest to revelation.

Breathing Landscapes · Opening Night

15 years ago, the 3.11 earthquake compelled me to showcase the beauty of Fukushima before the disaster — because what is beautiful is also fragile, and worth preserving. Including our own well-being. Together with like-minded partners, we formed Friends of Fukushima — raising over HKD 800,000 for affected communities through the sale of my artworks.

Fifteen years later — Breathing Landscapes is the return.
A decade of work created at the highest altitudes in Japan, China, and the United States. One question at its heart — where is home? Come and find your own answer.
Inside the exhibition, a special installation awaits — to be experienced alone. Each RSVP guest is allocated a private moment. Just you, the mountain, and your breath.

📅 29 April · 6:30 – 8:30pm · Free, RSVP
