There are few places in the world that combine history, a unique and one of a kind ambience and comfort food around every corner in such a condensed way as Venice.

It’s a fascinating city and between exploring the narrow allies and floating along Canale Grande in a gondola, let’s not forget the importance of indulging in pastries, gelato, coffee and pizza on your elopement day 🤌😋

Venice is also one of the most crowded places you’ll ever visit - it’s essential to know where to go at what time of the day and it never hurts to have your own private terrace for a vow ceremony.

Endless days of checking the weather forecast, rescheduling to the backup date and yet a rainy morning start again… it wasn’t the best outlook at first… BUT! When in doubt, make more coffee and enjoy a croissant!

There was hope for a little weather window and so these two didn’t mind and plunged right into their adventure - and were rewarded with the most amazing and dramatic light. From the first look when the rain stopped and hints of sunlight came out for the first time, to their vows all the way to sunset, to the next day when the skies were blue and we were able to bask in warm sunlight again.

As always, working with a team is the best and I couldn’t be more grateful for and to work their magic.

Candice and Grant’s Dolomites elopement was so full of love, intention and adventure that I can’t but share their experience. Having met during the pandemic, their dates often revolved around outdoor activities such as hiking or picnicking in the woods. One of their first big adventures together as a couple was heading to Morraine Lake, Banff at 4am to hike to a viewpoint and watch a new day unfold.

Soon they knew that this kind of adventure was what they wanted for their wedding day and that a traditional wedding never felt right for them. They decided to elope and plan a trip to Italy that reflected their relationship in their elopement day activities! One thing that was important to them was choosing a location they had never been to before, but reminded them of their memorable trip to Banff.

We started out on a wonderfully and unusually warm September morning on the private docks of Lago di Braies, where they had the boats and the lake view all for themselves to enjoy the sunrise.

The weather and the day couldn’t have been more perfect – exploring the Dolomites until sunset when it was time for their vows during the most spectacular light. After a champagne toast and when it couldn’t have been a more perfect elopement day for them, Grant pulled out two sets of Mickey Mouse ears as a surprise for Candice who’s a huge Disney fan. It’s those little things that can make an elopement day super personal and unique! Candice’s smile was priceless. After the sunset, they witnessed a spectacular moonrise over the Dolomites, before wrapping up the day and hiking back in the dark.

Two days full of adventure, two days of crazy views, beautiful light, laughter and exhaustion.

If you only saw the photos you wouldn’t know that 1) worked her magic when we didn’t have electricity in the hut (Kinda essential for a blow dryer, flattening and curling iron 😆), 2) we had to scrap and reschedule day 1 because it was raining all day long and 3) We ran from the rain once although the forecast looked decent. Here’s to busting some myths: sometimes bloopers happen, no matter how good your planning and preparation is. That’s the variable X when choosing adventure - And yet, we had the best time and made some amazing memories for these two. Kudos to every couple who changes in the cold, while I am in my cozy down jacket😄

How lucky with the weather can you get? Yes 😄 These two waited in the freezing fog with zero visibility with me for 3 hours past sunrise. They never lost their smiles or hope - and finally were rewarded for their patience. Outdoor elopements will always be an adventure and sometimes not everything will go according to plan, especially in the mountains. The weather can throw everything at you, no matter how well prepared you are. Accept that things won’t be perfect - and they will turn out awesome 🤗

Sarah's and Dominik's wedding is the exact reason why I love elopements so much: you don't have to have a huge guest list to get married, in fact, more and more couples opt for the magical experience of "just us". They wanted a stress-free day full of adventure and celebration of their love - and that's exactly what it was. As avid hikers and mountain lovers there was no doubt in their mind that the outdoors needed to be an integral part of their wedding. They made their vision for their perfect wedding day come true and I admire them for all the meaningful details they included to highlight their personality and relationship. There is no right or wrong way to get married - there's only your way.
I'm extremely proud and humbled that these sweethearts have chosen me to document the story of their wedding day, to be able to relive these memories together with their friends and families at home. And if you can't tell from the images - we had a blast! Find the whole story here: https://danielavallant.com/blog/elopement-in-austria/
